Not necessarily your favorite actors in the films themselves, but who are your favorite actors in general who happen to be in the six films?

    Mine would be:

    1 - Harrison Ford
    2 - Ewan McGregor
    3 - Samuel L. Jackson

I, for one, have never seen him outside of the SW franchise. Not that I recall, anyway.

I have, although mostly on minor roles. He's more of a theater actor. But I didn't mention him for this same reason.

Yeah, I just IMDb'd him, and now I remember seeing him in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "Sleepy Hollow." But, as you say, minor roles.

Natalie Portman is my favorite actress and is my celebrity role.

I liked Evan McGregor in the SW movies and he was (IMO) by far the best actor. Harrison Ford is one of the best actors of the all time and it is impossible to not adore him. I like Liam Neeson pretty much too.

Others are Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing or as I call them the Hammer brothers. Harrison Ford because he's just awesome and I'm a Han guy if you can't tell. Ewan McGregor and Sir Alec Guinness were both very good As Obi-Wan. Also Frank Oz!

I find myself kind of torn here. Is the question more like "Who do you think the best actors to have been in a Star Wars movie are?", or more like "Who do you think turned in the best performances in a Star Wars movie?" The difference is often critical. Natalie Portman, for example, is one of the best young actresses out there, but her work in Star Wars was not her finest moment by any stretch.

So, answering the first: Natalie Portman, Ewan MacGregor, Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Ian McDiarmid, James Earl Jones, Liam Neeson, Terence Stamp

And answering the second: Frank Oz, Harrison Ford, Christopher Lee, Pernilla August, Ray Park, Anthony Daniels

    Harrison Ford
    Alec Guinness
    Christopher Lee
    Peter Cushing
    Liam Neeson
    James Earl Jones
    Frank Oz
    Natalie Portman
    Terence Stamp
    Brian Blessed

Probably missed a few, but so much of the rest of the cast basically did their best work in the SW films & didn't really shine anywhere else. Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels & Ian McDiarmid are the best examples of this. David Prowse has been in a few great films (A Clockwork Orange, most notably), but he's not what you'd call a brilliant actor.
I thoroughly enjoyed Hayden Christensen's performance in Shattered Glass, terrific film that never really went anywhere.
Ewan McGregor was brilliant in Shallow Grave and, of course, Trainspotting, but other than his involvement in SW, he's never really taken off the way so many were expecting back in the mid-90s.

As for Samuel L Jackson, talk about a one-trick pony. I've always found him miscast in the PT (funny that - he got the job by asking for it, not by being actually cast in the role, which was originally an alien), and apart from his earliest work, stereotyped in everything else.

Yeah, he was brilliant in that film. I was tempted to pick him for that, but TBH it's the only non-Star Wars film I've seen him in.

Nah, it's what people know him for, but he's done a lot of different stuff--including SW, obviously. I think I liked him best in "The Red Violin."

Favorite actors outside of the 6 movies?? Hmmm I say none. Outside of the GL6 none of the actors are my favorites.

Also, I should mention that I don't think Mark Hamill is a particularly great live-action actor, but he is an exceptionally talented animation voice actor.

I should add Alec Guinness. He was absolutely brilliant in the Lean films -- Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Bridge on the River Kwai (I haven't seen the other Lean films he was in).

Liam Neeson is another terrific actor. Very versatile.

No too long ago I watched Alec Guinness in "The Ladykillers" (the original, obviously, not the remake). What struck me is that he was good comedic actor, as well which I imagine is though.

Come to think of it, the same goes IMO for Liam Neeson--I still think he was great in "Love Actually."
