I hope you're aware that that's the one where you study phytoplankton, zooplankton and marine snails, not the one where you study dolphins and tropical fish. Whales and dolphins and cool tropical fish is Marine zoology. So many people have made that mistake in every year's fresh intake at my old University, it's not funny.

My dream job would probably be being the captain of an Ocean going vessel of some kind. Not sure I'd be any good at it, but hey. I'd get the title of "Captain"

 

I have my dream job: farming. Although being Batman would also be cool. Or a professional tap dancer. Or--being paid to do historical research. In England.

Actually, any of those would be even better if they were in England. New life goal!

Is this some kind of local or job related lingo? Poach? As in didn't want to buy things from a store or repair shop or poach as in something illegal?

Land Rover experience school instructor. Basically an off road driving instructor. Teach people how to drive a Range Rover or a land Rover on any terrain. They didn't want to take me because I worked for a Land Rover dealer at the time. They didn't want to poach me from my shop and piss off my manager who would then complain to corporate.
