I thought it was looting the system while they can.

 

The issue with the republican party isn't that they became the party of the tea party. But they listened to those with the loudest voices that had nothing to gain and nothing to add to governing. They simply wanted the govt to stop functioning with no care what happens. Its like the they are the crazy neighbor that wants everything to burn unless he gets his way. The problem that the party made was listening to them. They were not the majority, they were a small vocal minority. Instead of letting the people tear the party down they should have dismissed them openly and allowed for themselves to get more people reelected that are republican. Instead they put in the crazy candidates. Mark my words, 2016 will mean the end of the tea party. Listen we never had a party within a party before because it didn't work. Now you will see the same thing. These vocal groups don't know a thing about governing. But that is normal from the loud mouth in the room. Ask him to explain himself and his position and he won't or can't.

This is not quite the stuff of political legend. Now those representatives have to live with their stupidity for the rest of their terms, which just happens to be the entirety of them (since this all happened on the first day of the new Congress).

Obama came into office promising to be a "uniter" and Republicans couldn't allow him to succeed in becoming one because it would make themselves look bad in comparison. So what do they do? They move the political goalposts and spend their every effort at sabotaging his presidency in order to deny the appearance of consensus. Hence all the ranting about socialism and big government takeover.

 

Isn't that why Charlie Crist lost to Marco Rubio?

Crist hugged Obama in early 2009. After that, his popularity among the Florida Republicans went into freefall.

The Republican Party is basically asking the Internet for help on how to win elections... it's just a survey, including a couple text boxes where they ask you to be very specific on how they can possibly ever win an election again.
