It's is where you compare each one to all of the others, and then do that same forumla/that same concept in order to figure out in detail how much you like/how much you place all of them in order from their greatest to their least??? Or am I being too vague four you, guys???

They're saying they like them in this order:

    1. ESB
    2. ANH
    3. ROTS and ROTJ as a tie
    4. AOTC
    5. TPM

That's it. Yes, it's a comparison, because it's numbering them in the order of favourite to least favourite.

And you're not being vague, you're just wording the question really strangely, no offence intended.

Correct, that is all I was saying... that is my order of preference. And I voted for ESB in the poll.

Voted for ESB. I might have viewed it out of order (it was the last of the OT films that I saw), but it was the one that really blew me out of the water. The story, characters, music...it was all I wanted in a Star Wars film.

There should be an option of viewing it as 1 story, not 6 chapters

IMO The Empire Strikes Back is amongst the best movies ever (for any genre.)

I find much of ESB over-rated and slow but I emphasize I like all six movies. Yeah, that's right, all six. The lighter ones (ANH, TPM) to the darker ones (ESB, ROTS).

Which do I choose to throw in on a casual basis? TPM. Sometimes AOTC. Kick off the shoes and sit back entertainment. But ROTS is my fav as far as stories and execution of story goes.

I happen to like all suix movies also. I think George got bashed wayyy too much for the PT. BUT I just LOVE -- adore -- everything about TESB.I'm hoping that one of the new ST movies will make me like it better than Empire but I doubt it. After all that's a hard movie to top.

I love all six films. I voted ESB. My main concern with this polling though? How in the world does ANH only have 1 vote!?!???

    This is tough...

    Either AOTC, ESB, or ROTJ

AOTC has lots of enjoyable things in it.

ESB has some enjoyable things and nice twists as well.

ROTJ, really the throne room scenes are what make the movie for me. Probably my favorite parts of the Saga period.

I go back and forth between TPM and AOTC. But I'm not knocking the others; they all have plenty to offer.

One thing I really like about AOTC -- other than a ton of reasons I just tried to give in another thread; go here if you dare: http://boards.theforce.net/posts/50358823/ :p -- is that it is sorta the episode where almost everything that needs to happen finally happens. Or as the tvtropes entry (slightly sardonically) puts it: "Attack of the Clones finally addresses Lucas' thirty-year-old plot point about what the Clone Wars really are and why they happen. The plot follows at any given time about a million plots". On the other hand, a big part of the reason I feel I prefer TPM is precisely because it's not tasked with doing the "meat and potatoes" of the story, and is freer to do its own thing.

But looking a little more closely at its progenitor, which has to be TESB, a very important and ambitious movie in its own right, AOTC actually seems, in retrospect (note: do not confuse this with conscious intent) to be cued up by something Yoda says in TESB. Well, two things: 1) "Wars not make one great" (AOTC shows us how powerfully that insight was ultimately wrought), and 2) Luke's astonished reaction to his vision: "I saw a city in the clouds", which Yoda tells him is a glimpse of the future (well, in production order, yes!). If you notice, Cloud City itself is not *in* the clouds, but above them; however, Coruscant is manifestly fogged over in a thick soup of clouds at the start of AOTC. What did Luke actually see? "Cloud City" is the literal, immanent answer; but Coruscant, as it appears at the start of Episode II, is the more poetic, transcendent interpretation.

That reading seems to beatify AOTC to me. It's the one where the promise of Luke's vision takes hold. For it is also George LUCAS' vision. Writ large, in 2K digital. There is a great atmosphere to the film that I struggle to find elsewhere. I like its range of hues, the density of the canvas, this being an entire galactic epoch, and every composition being like a painting as if to more abstractly reflect the mythic grandeur of this singular time. It feels the most operatic, to me, and even makes an excellent "alternate" trilogy: THX, AG, AOTC. So, I'll probably say AOTC at this moment in time.

    RotS- By far my favourite.

As somebody has mentioned an order already, here is my list:

    1- Revenge of the Sith
    2- Empire Strikes Back
    3- Attack of the Clones
    4- The Phantom Menace
    5- Return of the Jedi
    6- A New Hope

I honestly find ANH to be the least entertaining of the movies and RotJ would have been alot higher if it wasn't for the Ewoks.
