Plagueis did apparently set out to create Force-sensitive life, but didn't have Shmi specifically in mind.

I don't know how else to put this to you without sounding like some cheesy geeky uberover-obsessed fanboy, anakinfansince1983, but I love just plain "epicness".

The Lightside of the force/the goodside of the Force fighting back at-darth plageuis literally contradicts itself. Now, that is our common ground over here!!!!

Eh, there's nothing in "Sith" that directly says "Darth Plageuis the wise created Anakin Skywalker" so it's totally up to the viewer's interpretation as to where he exactly came from. So I'm gonna go with "Sidious did it."

Stop contradicting yourself, dudes!!! How is that retaliation by/on the Force's part in any, way, shape, and&/or a form???? How is giving somebody what they want ever even retaliation at all, dudes?????

Darth Plageius wanted to create the Chosen One!!!!The lightside of the force/the goodside of the Force had given him just that-what the hell he had wanted!!!

As far as I know, the midichlorians would have no effect on the DNA of a subject. They lived symbiotically within the host cells, not altering anything. They supposedly don't hold the genetic ability themselves.
While it is possible for them to create life, I would assume the DNA would be randomised or take on the DNA of the mother, if one was involved.

But that was my question earlier, if the midis made use of Shmi's DNA then how can Anakin be male?
Shmi lacks an Y-chromosome and without that, any child would automatically be female.
A child made of only Shmi's DNA would be a clone of her.

    Bye for now.

I would go with my bolded theory.
For all we know they could be able to alter chromosomes as well though, synthetically creating a Y.
It's possible with certain types of human cells (it's been tested, supposedly, albeit it hasn't been tested in an actual human.) Perhaps the midis know the way to do this.

Maybe Shmi's an intersex male- has Y chromosome but looks fairly feminine otherwise?

That's an interesting theory... that could be possible. With the extra Y, she could have a sort of form of Androgen insensitivity.

Or going the crazier route: Different genetics altogether, and there are no x or y like we know.

Like Star Wars humans are actually genetically not human like we are? Or else, Shmi Skywalker has some genetic mutation that allowed for her to have a baby that was the opposite gender of hers as well as possessing a Force sensitivity of a far greater level than hers and that's why she was chosen by the midichlorians?

I can understand why the Chosen One ended up human if humans are the most populous species of the Star Wars galaxy since then, the odds are in favor of the Chosen One being human if it were selected at random. So, why male and why born to a slave with no discernible quality? I know storytelling-wise, Lucas wanted to recreate the whole Virgin Mary and Jesus situation but in-universe, without the Christian context and approaching this all within the lens of the prophecy, what's the explanation?

    Something along those lines. :)

I don't think he wanted an explanation. He wanted Anakin to be a mystery, IMO.

But you know the Star Wars fandom can't stand for that kind of stuff. They need it all spelled out. Hence, all the elaborate fanon/canon perpetuated by EU and the fandom in general.

I vaguely remember, back in the days of the OT when there was supposed to be 9 movies (funny that we've come full circle, eh?) Some blurb about the very end of the saga being revealed as a reading of the "Journal of the Whills" read possibly by the droids, and revealed that the humans of Star Wars were our ancestors and seeded life on Earth...

The abominable act was deliberate, how it affected all life is what is up for debate... and Plagueis' opinion matters not to me.

The Muun attempted to influence ALL LIFE, from insect to sentient, from King to slave... he touched every being through the force and Shmi ended up pregnant. Coincidence? Maybe. Will of the force? Maybe.

For my money, Darth Plagueis made Anakin by accident.

I'm hugely confused by this topic...
Plagueiss did not bed Shmi Skywalker. There was no intercourse. No hanky-panky. He did not get lucky. There was no mating. No getting his end away. There was no 70's porn music involved.
So how the hell would he have passed on his genetics? If a farmer grows a crop of corn, it doesn't mean he'll end up with some kind of monstrous corn/human hybrid.

    My brain hurts.

Well, while Plaguesis might have had something to do with it, Anakin was a son to shimi, and her Skywalker Genes. So Anakin would have traits to Shimi, or her ancestors.
