That's why it's called science fiction, and not science fact.;)

Giant flat screen TVs. Handheld computers that fit in your pocket. Voice control of devices. Cars that drive themselves. Video phone calls. Touchscreen devices. Military laser beams.

    Gooooooooooo Science

    Fiction.

An early 80's cyberpunk book called Island In The Net predicted the fax machine. Whoa!

Did star trek invent the ipad or just copy it from the past?

I like the way the future of Humans is portrayed in WALL-E, people confined to chairs with access to computers that do everything for them. With no need to walk around or exercise anymore we have become flabby and our limbs have shrunk since we only need them to press buttons that are a few inches from us.
This has not happened yet, but I can see something similar occurring some time in the future.

We don't have Robocops, cyborg technology is still limited but how far it will go is anyone's guess.

The question is what scifi is wrong about. This is something scifi is wrong about. You may as well have made the katana-winking-smiley post to everyone in the thread.

In Back to the Future 2, there was something that resembled Skype, I remember. Minority Report had these personalized ads.

I think it's a bit creepily prescient that some of the things in the backstory for the Shadowrun RPG setting are coming true. There's the handheld computers that you can install your own OS and software on to hack stuff, Google glasses which could possibly be the precursors to HUD content lenses, drones, Citizens United ruling which is a possible step to legitimization of megacorp government, and thought-controlled bionic implants. About the only thing I can't see possibly happening is the sudden reappearance of magic in the world that Shadowrun has. But maybe I am in a paranoid mood...

That's one of my favorite examples. As recently as Minority Report (like ten years ago or so?) that seemed just crazy. "Hey, Jon Anderton, have a cold beer." Wow, that's CRAZY! Now it happens every time I use a search engine.

For getting things right (although not science part of it):
Idiocracy: Black president of the US is heckled during a speech by a representative from South Carolina

If you consider 24 sort of sci - fi, then you could say they got it right, in the fact that they were the first to put a black man in the White House long before the American public did in RL.

Things 24 got wrong: Well LA hasn't been nuked yet, has it?:p

What? No they weren't. Black presidents showed up in plenty of things, but I'd point out Deep Impact in the 90s when Morgan Freeman was the president.

 I like Freeman's performance, but I have a tendency overall to want to forget that movie.

I concede the point to you good Lowbacca_1977

Well, 24 wasn't sci-fi, it was just gimmicky TV whose sole gimmick got old on its first season. And LA did not get nuked, because the goddam Bauerman saved the day, as he mostly always did. :p
