Had not thought of the movie much until I read saw the newest edition of the book at B&N and being intrigued by the sparce details I gleamed from the back cover. I hope it turns out to be a good and fun read.

About halfway through London Falling by Paul Cornell. It's a bit of a confusing start as you try to figure out the good guys and bad guys but gets better pretty fast. I'm enjoying it.

    How is it?

There is a very real possibility that I'm bothering everyone who reads historical nonfiction so I can get recommendations for books that I write down but never have time to read :p

Just don't ever read Ammianus Marcillinus' Roman History. God, it's excruciating.

I love it but I'm very biased because I love me some Hannibal.
I do think he has a poetic flair too...

The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944 by Rick Atkinson. So far it's pretty good, though Atkinson's prose can get a bit too flowery.

Almost finished with the 11th Dresden novel, Turn Coat. Excellent series.

Slowly continuing my reread of Wheel of Time, currently on Path of Daggers. Can already tell how finishing A Memory of Light is affecting my thoughts on particular characters/events.

Oh, and also slowly making my way back through the SW universe, currently about 2/3 of the way through TOR: Deceived.

If all else fails, Livy's History of Rome- what survives of it at least- is a fantastic read, though the accuracy is suspect at times, particularly the Kingdom/Early Republic sections. But still, a fantastic read, and a fascinating insight into how the Roman upper class of the Late Republic/Early Principate mythologized their past.

Reading SW: Scoundrels for fiction and Bird Sense by Tim Birkhead for non-fiction. The latter is definitely recommended if you are interested in birds.

I'm going to read a few small things next, before tackling "Memory of Light" (and THEN rereading the last 6 books of Wheel of Time):
I Saw Zombies Eating Santa Claus.

The Hound of the Baskervilles. Enjoying it tremendously, fully deserves its standing as the best of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

I particularly enjoy Livy, though as you noted, accuracy in the earlier portions is rather suspect. Still as good or better than anything else for the period, though.
