The Rebel book series has announced a individual novel for each Luke, Leia and Han but would anyone else like a C-3PO and R2-D2 novel?

    Totally.

And even more so if it featured the long-awaited DROID REVOLUTION [face_skull]

A book series announced back In June taking place post ANH but pre ESB. So far three novels have been announced.

    One for Luke.
    One for Leia.
    One for Han.

An entire novel of Laurel and Hardy type banter from the OT? Or multiple chapters of adventures in which R2 saves 3PO's ass?

No, I can't see it working. Even as a short story I can't see it working.

It could be awesome - and it could be SO bad... anakinfansince1983 is right - there's a reason it really hasn't been done. It would need the exactly right idea and execution - but darn, I love the idea!

I'm on the fence with this idea. Granted, the two had their share of adventures during the Droid cartoons back in the 80's. And they were the main stars in an episode last season in The Clone Wars. A whole novel centered on them? It might work, but then again it might not.

    Why only a duology?

You can get at least seven books out of this idea, easy.

What about another nine book series? "The Fateful Legacy of the DRIODS," the followup to FotJ/SotJ/Crucible told entirely from Artoo and Threepio's viewpoints. :p

Personally, no. I'd rather a Lando book, or an ACKBAR book, or a Wedge book, or a Mon Mothma book,or a Chewie book, or a Garm Bel Iblis book, or an Imperials book focused on Vader, or Palpatine.

It could work. That is R2 and C-3PO at their best. I'll read it

Oh, I see how it is... just a two book series, not a trilogy...

    R2 bias, much?

The problem with an R2 and 3PO focused work, and with droids in print in general, is that unless a droid speaks basic, it tends to dissapear (in fact, unless anything speaks basic it tends to dissapear, as Chewie discovered during much of the Bantam years). The R2/3PO dynamic depends heavily on precise droidspeak sounds and th physicality of the two characters. It seems to work best in a fully mobile environment with audio.

There have been a small number of R2 and 3PO focused TCW episodes (results have been mixed) and R2 got a lot of love in the most recent TCW arc. I think that medium fits the pair better.

We've more or less had a Vader and Palpatine book with Rise of Darth Vader and Darth Plagueis respectively.

I meant more set during the OT era, though, like the Rebels series, rather than set many years prior.

To be honest, no. Done well it could be really interesting, but the odds that it would be done well would be low, the kinds of stories you could tell around them would be limited, and I'd much rather see any expansion of the Rebels line focus on characters more naturally conducive to storytelling -- specifically, Lando (goddammit, he's Lando!), Wedge, maybe Ackbar, and, hell, Chewie.

Of course, not that I'd object if we did get a quality story set around them.

    What do you mean, goes?

Fine, he may not be evil in Star Wars -sense (if it's the last hope, he'll sacrifice himself), but he just skimmed through Asimov's rules and doesn't really care about people and robots between him and his mission if they are not his friends. Remember what he did to C-3PO in the droid factory, just for standing in front of him.

The comics were pretty good, but I do not think a novel about our two favourite droids would be such a good idea.

Going back to The Hidden Fortress/Kurosawa roots and telling a story from the droids' perspective could be interesting.
