A noble cause, indeed. Heck, I'd be naked right now if it wasn't for temple rules.

A thought occurred to me while looking up info on the sabre forms, and again when reading the manual skyguy wrote - is there no form that utilises hand-to-hand combat? And by that I don't mean without a sabre; even with a two-handed grip on a sabre, a combatant could still easily kick, especially with the Force to help keep their balance. The reason I thought of this is that if I were to theoretically learn a sabre form, I'd want to incorporate the years of training I've already spent in taekwondo. Obviously I understand that it'd be considered 'cheating' by most RL sabre or fencing forms to use hand-to-hand techniques but... I don't know, it'd make sense for the Jedi to include it.

EDIT: An addendum to this is also that in the Luke Skywalker and later era, when Jedi aren't being trained from childhood, some people may already have learned a variety of hand-to-hand combat techniques and would likely want to incorporate it into their sabre fighting, so I guess it would be hard to have any one form that includes it, as each style of combat, like each lightsabre form, is very different.

Anyhow, just a thought. Or five.

Indeed, Poe. I'd imagine that with two (or more) lightsabers flying around, getting close enough for hand-to-hand combat would be a little dangerous, even for a Jedi. I learned some hand-to-hand stuff in the Army, and have done a very little bit of Brazillian Jujitsu afterwards. If someone had a saber (even the non light kind) and wanted to swing it around at me, the only way I'm getting that close is if I have no saber and can't take theirs from them or escape.

Neither would I... when I get the temp board posts up you'll read that Josch uses a form of martial arts while fighting with his sabers

Maybe it's just because I'm quite tall but at times they are close enough for that - in fact, IIRC in RotS Obi-wan and Anakin used a few kicks against one another. And when you're locked sabre-to-sabre, it'd be easy enough to lash out at the knee or trip them at the ankle and, if they weren't prepared for it, gain the advantage.

One could theoretically utilize hand-to-hand combat in a duel if they wore beskar.

Well, even against non-sabre-wielding opponents it could add an advantage, and also the benefit of not having to chop off a limp to incapacitate them.

It just seems odd that it's never been included in a sabre form, I could see how it would be difficult, but as hand-to-hand is my strong point and I have relatively little knowledge of swordplay, I would personally choose my stronger skill, of course. Imagine the flying side kick I could do with the Force...

Flying side kick is one of my weakest kicks, I'll have to admit. But with the Force I could improve greatly!

Is she in World federation or International federation? I won't judge if she's in world... too much :p

Eh... yes and no. Unarmed combat specifies 'without weapons'. I'm talking about a combination of sabre-fighting and, well, what we'd consider to be martial arts. Clearly the Jedi were trained in both but there's not a lot of use of a combination.

I think any martial arts are great, really. I just have hard feelings because I was active when the two split and it was... messy. :p So I make fun of the world federation just because.
