Full Series The Clone Wars - 5.15 - Shades of Reason - discussion thread

I thought about this yesterday. Ever since Starship Troopers I was fan of Clancy Brown. But I'm not sure I would have cast him as Savage. The deepness of his voice fits Savage's size and strength, but I'd cast a younger actor for Savage. What I like about Savage is how he started: he was a little guy! I seem to recall that someone wrote Savage as an older brother to Maul, which seems like garbage IMO. I think Clancy Brown would be better as a recurring character, like a Jedi. And instead of calling each other brother all the time, I'd prefer we got one more episode out of this arc. Establish their relationship as brothers, but then evolve into master/apprentice. The scene in Revival was nice, but I hoped to SEE Maul training Savage, like Dooku did. Maul and Savage would have been a nice mirror to Obi-Wan and Anakin.

 

I would kill for an episode developing their relationship. We just don't see enough of it on screen to buy that these guys want to stick together, we have to add this context ourselves. That's why I wish they were still doing the preview comics - this would have been a perfect opportunity to expand on their relationship, without having it interfere with the progression of the plot. I realise there's been some material on Maul and Savage but I felt it was lacking. If it's left to the viewers to justify and provide explanations for what's happening on screen then someone isn't doing their job as a storyteller.

 

Clancy Brown probably would have made a great CIS character voice, his voice always suits villains well IMO. I think the problem with Savage is following the Nightsisters arc and this Maul stuff Savage took such a backseat and became so dull. That may not really say much since the guy who voiced Saw did a great job with a door knob. Brown was a little better last episode. I also think Clancy Brown is suffering from, 'Oh its that guy again!' stigma. I've heard him in a few different currently airing shows (Brown also tends to sound a little dull as Silas in Transformers Prime) as well as the old stuff like Gargoyles where I love him as Hakon and Wolf. He shows alot more flexibility there with those two characters.

 

you know, I was kinda hoping maul and Dooku could have a throwdown just to settle which one is second rate, and I remember promises from filoni and crew promising that much. But with two more episodes, including this one, in the arc. I just doesn't look like its going to happen. I know we got something more epic than that, but it would have been very cool to see Grievous and Dooku step up to the Super Maul Bros.

 

This is pure speculation but I could see Sidious capturing Maul/knocking him out and then having him face Dooku just for a lol, he can't get much Sithly entertainment.
Or just cutting off his legs again

 

Grievous and Savage would be cool, IMO.

 

It would be nice to see Grievous get involved, alas.

 

Randy would destroy him.

 

They need to release the season 2 and 3 internent comics. When the heck is that coming out.

 

If Grievous had some amazing hat..

 

Randy has horns, he's not familiar with how they work. As such Embo was able to get the jump on him.

A Death Watch member was in the way when Vizsla got decapitated and the duel was awesome, and Almec became Prime Minister again
