Like, do I believe that it is a thing, or do I believe its contents? This is a very vague question.

No... I was talking about the opening post.

    Here's my actual answer, though.

I personally don't follow what the bible says, nor do I believe that it's actually the word of any god. I take it for what it is... a book written by several people who likely put their own personal spin on events that may or may not have happened. Of course, that's my own personal take... I don't really condemn those who do take it as law and apply it to their lives, as long as they don't attempt to force it on to me.

I'm a Christian, but I don't believe in everything in the Bible, though some of it was inspired by God.
I believe in the Big Bang and Evolution and Science.
Hell is not eternal or a place of torture.
We follow Jesus and God by loving each other, can follow them without believing in them.
No people/family//bloodline/ethnicity/race is more special than any other.
Men and women are equal, and being gay or marrying someone of the same sex is not a sin.
We should forgive others, not judge or condemn, and love our enemies.
There's good in every person, and every religion.
God doesn't punish people for being Muslim or Buddhist or Atheist.
Rituals aren't important, you don't have to go to church once a week, what's important is what's in your heart.
I believe in the Trinity, the Incarnation (Jesus is the Son of God), Atonement/Salvation/Heaven, and the Resurrection.

What exactly are we supposed to discuss, Team Padme??

I do not believe The Bible exists, I think it's just Tolstoy's War and Peace in a fake dustcover.

at the best, the bible can provide tremendous insight into a good and decent way to live your life. at its worst, you have things that give easy justification into doing tremendous wrong. it works best as a moral guideline. do i believe that the stories in it truly happened? some maybe. some not so much. it seems like an insane fusion of reality and myth, and it's all crammed down your throat and taken out of context by everybody and sometimes i wonder what it would be like if we took the god and religion out of the bible, because there's a lot of unrealized potential in it i think.

Absolutely. I mean, my mom owns a copy, sometimes the Gideons pass around New Testaments near campus, I've seen the dead sea scrolls; I can confidently say I believe, based on observable evidence, that there is a bible.

I believe the Bible is only true in the broadest strokes: Who the leaders of various countries were, local geography, etc. But there was no Garden of Eden, no great flood, no Moses parting the Red Sea, no resurrection of Jesus. As a history book, it fails. As a moral and ethical guide, it fails.

Yeah love your neighbor and your enemies, forgive people a lot and treat others the way you want to be treated. Talk about moral failure!

Kill your child for talking back to you, rape is okay if you marry the victim. Great moral successes. We can play that game of pick the verse that makes your side look good all day long.

Look, the bible has some good **** and some horrifyingly terrible ****. So our morality shouldn't come from it. It should come from within ourselves.
