    Well he gave independence to Finland... thinking that this way the workers could rebel, take the wheel of this new country and join the glorious nation of workers. It didn't work. We all have our bad days.

    I live near Grand Rapids, Michigan, Roger Chaffee's hometown, so there's quite a few things named in his honor there.

    Back to back NASA tragedy anniversaries...

    ON THIS DAY

    On Jan. 28, 1986, space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff from Cape Canaveral, killing all seven crew members.

    I was doing kindergarten homework when Dan Rather had annouced that Challenger exploded. Very very sad day.

    I was in third grade at the time, and one of the classrooms had a TV set to ABC with Peter Jennings going over a space shuttle model, and I was wondering what that was all about.
