I don't mean wiping up versus down I mean the paper on the roll. Pull from the top or the bottom?

Anyways, in my parents' house it's always over, and it's so weird when I go to my grandmother's house and it's under. It's an abomination!

 

I guess I'm just one of those who it really doesn't matter to me how the roll goes on the stand and how I pull it out. But to satisfy your curiosity, most of the time it's over.

 

back-to-front or front-to-back would be a more substantive question, imo.

How is that even relevant?
We have a cat in our family, but the roll is always over in my bathroom...

 

I'm guessing it's because a cat will go nuts unrolling paper all over the floor, which is easier to do if it's over than under.

 

I had to learn this the hard way, but: always over, never under.

 

Over is dumb. You can't use the weight of the toilet roll to tear the paper off.

 

Under.

I've found that under is best in public restrooms where you'll sometimes get rolls falling on top of each other. It's also the recommended insertion for public dispensers, be they for toilet paper or paper towels. Otherwise, the roll either gets stuck or rips off easier, leaving you with tiny strips.
