Just to ask, anyone know how to take screenshots on the PC version of the game?

    ...With a camera?

    :D

Kidding -- doesn't the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard do something like this?

Double post, but -- had a lot of fun last night. For some reason the teams I got had abysmally high mission failure rates, though for some reason I kept finding it hysterically funny when we did. I think it was someone from over in the UK yelling "****ING LAG!" in a plummy accent that made me lose it.

But it got funnier, mostly because I wound up on Firebase Jade with a couple of (again) English-accented chaps, facing Geth. Seemed to function pretty well at least to start with; we took up nice positions on either side of the two main approaches and held them pretty strongly. Really felt like a good fighting group.

It started to go a bit wrong when we had to move out to escort or activate stuff, as you do...I've resumed my spot, plunking missiles down hallways, getting injured...and that's when I start paying attention to the two guys on their microphones.
"Behind you! Look behind you! Turn around, you ****ing muppet!" I know it sounds abusive, but I just couldn't stop laughing because they were trying to warn me in these really, really funny English accents...
Anyway, I finally figure it's me the're talking to, so I turn around and there's a Geth Hunter or two. So I dropped a missile at my own feet, and ran like hell. (Which was also the funny part: whenever confronted with an overwhelming force, they tended to howl "Run away! Run away!" in the best Monty Python fashion. Ahhhh, the English. Don't you love 'em?) Although possibly the funniest remark was during the postmortem from one of them: "I got 50 kills, he got 25 kills and 40,000 points, how does that ****ing work?" :D That turned out to be one of the few successful missions that night, even if it took the four of us nearly 30 minutes to finish it all out. We kept all getting killed and nobody around to revive. Sigh...

I think my most memorable multiplayer experience was around wave 8 or 9 in the Reactor level with the Collectors. I'm a Quarian infiltrator and my whole team is down but me, there are about 4 collector troopers, 2 commanders, 2 scions, and 1 praetorian. I've got a raptor sniper rifle and a locust submachine gun. I run around, away from the scions and praetorians, and pick off as many low level troops as I can as I retreat into the reactor. After luring the commanders, 1 scion, AND the praetorian into the reactor I bolt out, health down to nothing and seal the doors for a core breach and kill them all. Then once my shields recharge I hit the last scion with everything I got. And with no shields and the last collector trooper coming and empty my last 20 rounds of my locust into him. THAT was one tense round. I didn't hear any chatter from my teammates but I'm assuming they were pleased with that outcome.

Though it didn't matter as my game crashed during extraction so I got no credit for it.

    That's... pretty tense.

I remember one time a couple months ago doing Sur'kesh/Firebase Jade vs Cerberus on bronze as the N7 Paladin with three other guys. I don't know how, but everyone but me ended up KO-ed around wave 5 (I think), leaving me alone to face everyone. I went to the lower lab and hunkered down by one of the desks, picking off guys with the Hurricane (I think) or powers as they turned up, and using the omni-shield for extra cover. I managed to beat them, and at least one of the other guys congratulated me, said I was a "hero". Oddly, everything was fine after that. I was glad this happened before the Dragoons were added, otherwise they would have knocked me out of what little cover I could have taken.

Not really a story, but it made me chuckle. One time, I was waiting in a silver lobby, and I noticed that one of the guys there was new. N1 level new, and playing as a level 1 soldier. I didn't say anything, or have a problem with him being there, but I remember chuckling and thinking that he was going to be in for a world of hurt (especially if it had been Collectors.) For better or for worse though, he did leave the lobby.

So any word on the Mass Effect movie that they're planning on making? I'm pessimistic about it's chances ever since Episode VII was announced.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I fully expect that project to be stuck in development hell for eternity. Also, quite frankly I think the fandom's been given enough reason to gripe; I'd give such a project a 99% chance of being a horrid clusterscrew.

Some epic MP stories there - one of these days I might get tempted to join up. Although if I'd had GenAntilles's experience of getting skunked after that epic-ness I might have punched a wall.

EDIT: Two pieces of news. The good (hopefully) first, Chris Priestly is tweeted that he's testing an early build of the next DLC. Chatter is guessing it'll be ready early in March.

Unfortunately, the second is that Robin Sachs (Zaeed) died at his home Feb. 1st at the age of 62.

    Perfect selection of image, Cane.

Although to be honest, unless this DLC is absolutely oh-my-god spectacular and does anything significant to address the game's problems, I'd characterise your news as bad news and worse news.

That image was posted to the BSN forums, along with Thane's deathbed prayer. Sadly, he apparently died alone and wasn't found for four days.

As for the DLC, I'm not ecstatic about the odds, but I can hope. If nothing else it'll close out ME3 and I'll finally start some NG+ playthroughs. So far they've posted one purported screenshot, of Wrex apparently speaking to a human male (perhaps Shepard) in Alliance fatigues in what appears to an entertainment district in the Citadel wards.

Some news here from people who've been datamining the recent bug fix: apparently the next MP DLC will in some way incorporate single-player game information into your MP game. Interresting.

Hmm. I'm also (being a virtual gun nut as opposed to an IRL one) intrigued by the mention of "new ultra-light materials" for shotguns, ARs, and snipers. I'm also quite intrigued to see the suggestion that unlike previous patches this one's been scrubbed of any hints to SP DLC.

Also intrigued at the speculation that the "story-based" MP co-op missions might involve providing cover for your SP Shep during Priority: Earth.

What's scary is that I typed up my latest MP story I thought to myself that I sounded a little like Zaeed telling his war stories. Then I browse around the net a little more and find out about Robin Sachs... :(

I saw the two released images about the upcoming DLC. The one that Cane described looked more like a concept drawing more than a screenshot (but maybe that was just me?). The other one was an image of a krogan with a large hammer (think gravity hammer from Halo) on what looked like the Thessia/Firebase Goddess map. I suppose it's saying something that I'm more interested in the rumored MP stuff than anything SP related.

Also, thought I'd share a few more tidbits I found in the datamining thread I mentioned:

From the looks of things, rescuing Zal'Koris and destroying the AA guns on Rannoch were two seperate missions. And someone was supposed to help:

Finally, for now, there's this bit. Most of it deals with the Council talking with Shepard after the Coup. Part of it expands on why Ash/Kaidan wanted to join up afterwards. Oh, and the Council appoints Shepard as Lord Protector of the Galaxy:

Good grief... Lord Protector Shepard? Did the writers forget this was Mass Effect and not Dragon Age?

Yep. Which was why it was cut. Though honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the Council did such a thing.

Still the title just seems way off. I could understand SUPREME COMMANDER Shepard, but not Lord Protector Shepard.

If I had to guess, the "Lord Protector" bit was a placeholder name (notice it says "TEMP Lord Protector"). There's a few others like that as well that I've seen while looking over the original drafts. The Crucible was mostly refered to as "the DEVICE", and Javik was mostly refered to as "the Prothean" or "Prothean squadmate/henchman." Or maybe whoever wrote that just got done playing Dragon Age. Or reading British history.

I will admit, seeing "Lord Protector Shepard" makes me think of this:

Maybe he got dimensionally fluxed back into the 1600s by the ending :p

Speaking of images - seriously, does anyone know how to do screen caps on the PC version? Tried looking around BSN, but my eyeballs wanted to melt after trying to sort through 20+ pages of fanboy/girl posts.

Seriously this time: I found this thread on BSN which seems to get into the subject. Looks like you have to use the free version of FRAPS or do some sort of alchemy with Steam.

In other news, it was a nice, pleasant enough couple of rounds on MP last night. Failed a couple of missions on Silver with a couple of dudes who seemed to know what they were doing, but I finally got high score on a failed Reactor mission (I think because I was holding a flank all on my own for one of the waves, around 7 if I remember right. You know how you've got that ammo box on the "far" side of the reactor from the LZ, and you can turn and just shoot downward through the reactor? The Collectors threw a team through there which I was dealing with while my teammates were all off fighting everyone else.) My one-two punch with Concussive Shot/Krysae round still works pretty well; I think I've gotten preeeety decent with it. It's a real "fire, dance while you recharge, fire again" -- sort of skirmishing with an RPG. Put it this way, I've not been kicked by anybody yet in pick-up games and they do come and revive me, so that's telling something...

But then it got really interesting. Because I went for a Reserves Pack rather than an Arsenal pack.
"Hmm, okay, Cobra missile reload, Medigel, Salarian Engineer, meh, I don't like to play Gandalf ... oh, hey. What's an N7 Destroyer?"
    *clicks X, stats up character*

    Holy God.

So apparently I'm roughly half-mech. I decided to use the Piranha that's been sitting unused in my arsenal along with the random Smart Choke upgrades I'd acquired. With my humble little Turian soldier I was always dancing, always sniping. It's all "Aha! Take zat, you silly little Assault Trooper, you!" This thing, it's more like constantlGRAAAAGH GO AHEAD, SHOOT ME WITH THOSE PIDDLING COLLECTOR RIFLES, I STILL HAVE SHIELDS TO BURN, SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND! *kablam, kablam, kablam* WHO'S NEXT? OH, YOU WANT SOME, SCION? EAT MISSILE, *KA-BOOM!* BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

...er, yes. Of course, I stupidly picked Hawk Missiles instead of frag grenades so I'll have to restat him when I get a reboot card, but this was stupid fun and awesome. Even if it's close combat, it's a hell of a lot easier than Turian Soldier. :D

I wonder if Lord Protector Shepard would be referred to as 'My Lord' by everyone from then on. Cause then I would totally wear my Terminous Armor and play as a Darth Vader Sith Lord with my omni-blade being my default weapon.

That's more or less why I picked Blood Dragon armor for my renegade adept (plus given the shielding, power damage, and power recharge bonuses of the Blood Dragon armor I can essentially play him as a charge-less vanguard with nova). He's not all-out evil (he cured the genophage and had everyone loyal and alive at the end of ME2), but he sure fits in the Type IV Anti-Hero bracket. That, and the fact that he rarely has to fire a shot because he's unleashing a non-stop TK beatdown is pretty Sithy. For his N7 armor I had him with the Death Mask and a gray-and-red paint scheme, or at least I hope that was paint. Only time I've deviated from the classic red-and-black N7 pattern. Reason I asked about screenies is that I was thinking of taking some of my six Sheps. Funny that you have to go through all that trouble - there's a "screenshots" subfolder in the files for all three games, I assumed there was a hotkey for it like some other titles I have.

Saintheart, I looked at the specs for N7 Destroyer a while ago; the Typhoon and Piranha were essentially designed for that character. Aside from the fact that you can't dodge very well, it's essentially specced as a mini-Atlas. "Stand and deliver!" indeed, if the delivery involves hot shrapnel.
