LMAO. Poor wittle conservatives. They can't handle opposition.

Seriously, if they are posting something on Facebook that is getting them shut down, it's probably pretty serious, along the lines of threats to Obama. In fact I'd be willing to bet money that they're posting threats to Obama or statements that could be construed as such.

so reading that article i came across that the guy who wrote it wrote a book about "conservative america" wherein he interviewed paula deen so then i looked up articles on paula deen and politics and found that she and her brother were being sued by a restaurant manager at her brother's chain and then i slowly realized paula deen's brother is like vlm with a leekenobi southern steeze:

circle o life, baby. big ******* circles, even in the vastness of the internet

I went to their search field and typed in Facebook

Look, I have a problem here and there with Facebook. They are selling your info if you let them and they are underhanded about it.(Don't click the "stay logged in" button). But well, just read it.

A movie was made about the origins of Facebook, called The Social Network. The film did not meet expectations at the Academy Awards and, despite heavy media promotion, was number one in America for only several weeks.

Yeah, suck it, David Fincher. Your movie was only nominated for numerous awards and didn't win them! And it was only number one in America for several weeks! Ha ha! How does it feel? How does FAILURE FEEL?! AHAHAHAHAH

I saw The Social Network. Every character in it was horrible. The only redeeming character in it was the old girlfriend of Zuckerberg's who told him that she wasn't dumping him because he was smart, she was dumping him because he was an ***hole.

4chan will be organizing field trips.
Look at it, if the comments on that article are anything to go by, it's going to be floating troll bait. [face_laugh]

    EDIT:
Found so many comments that are gems, wanted to quote one but there are just too many to choose from

So a website which idea is "Anyone in the world who can access the page can join and speak with people from around the world or just the people they like", and the group who has enough problems with it that they create their own Facebook are Conservatives. Which is quite a small group when you consider an entire world. There's no group that says "Facebook is too US-centric, let's make another for some other country or continent" or "The changes in Facebook irritate me, we'll make one in which nothing ever changes"

PS: After reading some of the Facebook comments on that news, I decided to just call them all trolls to keep my optimism high.

Because, what - liberals don't have their own websites where they go to have lefty circle jerks? Are DailyKos, Huffington Post, MoveOn.org, Jezebel, Reddit, and Democratic Underground just figments of my imagination? By the way, I agree that conservatives should stay and fight instead of taking their ball and going home. But that's a different issue - it's just bad strategy. Liberals criticizing them for creating their own hangouts on the web, though, just doesn't pass the "beam in your own eye" test.

No, the real problem here is one that afflicts both sides, but that each will only say is a problem with the other side and not for them. It's an issue that Eli Pariser touched on in The Filter Bubble, but is even bigger than that. It's that as the internet era brings us away from media that's universal and broadly-targeted into media that's specialized and targeted for specific audiences, we enter an age in which people tend to interact only with people who already agree with them, and don't ever have their beliefs challenged. This takes an already-polarized nation and makes it even more so, because moderating influences have been replaced with partisan ones.

The great Senator Pat Moynihan (whose politics I generally abhorred, but who I admired for his intellect and eloquence) once said that everybody's entitled to their own opinion, they're just not entitled to their own facts. But that's precisely where we're going now. Liberals live in a liberal bubble where they only get liberal-friendly facts because they get their news and commentary from sources that cater to them instead of challenging them - they watch MSNBC, listen to Best of the Left, read HuffPo, converse with people on Democratic Underground, and so on. Conservatives do exactly the same thing, just with their own sources - Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, WorldNet Daily, Free Republic, and so on. It ends up in a situation where we don't even just look at reality and come to different conclusions about what it means anymore; now, we largely don't even live in the same realities. We can't even understand the other side, and end up with cartoonish, ridiculous, deeply bigoted concepts of who the people who disagree with us are, what they believe, and what motivates them.

As flawed as the old media days of Walter Cronkite and the daily newspaper were, at least they gave everyone a common touchstone; a set of facts and a view of reality that sometimes challenged their beliefs and that they had to deal with. Now that we have the ability to live in the reality bubble of our choosing, we largely do. An unintended consequence, and not a positive one.

I think calling Facebook a left wing conspiracy is why people are laughing. And this move, to a right wing version of Facebook? It's the unholy love child of "throwing the toys out of the cot" and "tin foil hats".

I'm not sure I saw where anyone actually did that. I could have missed it, as I really only skimmed the article, though.

Again, how is this significantly different from the likes of Democratic Underground or Reddit*? I don't think this is the right thing for conservatives to do, but they're hardly the only guilty party here.

(*Yes, i know that technically Reddit isn't an explicitly liberal hangout. But functionally it is - try being a conservative or openly religious there and you'll see what I mean.)

I don't think anyone is questioning the right of conservatives to have their own sites on which to congregate; I think people are finding it a bit odd that they're leaving Facebook due to "years of censorship and liberal bullying." Facebook isn't a liberal place nor is it a conservative place -- it's so huge and represents such a broad user base that it's essentially a cross-section of the country and parts of the world.

There are liberal and conservative pockets, true, and these sometimes interact and insults can be thrown, but there's no overarching "liberalism" to Facebook in the same way that there is for DailyKos.

That's why the comparisons to Conservapedia are appropriate. Because Wikipedia isn't "liberal." It might have a few more liberal editors, true, but it has no official liberal lean and anyone can edit it. Plus with the huge number of contributors and the edit wars that occur on the pages of controversial figures, Wikipedia has a rather more representative userbase.

People are finding this move by some conservatives to be worthy of ridicule because it's essentially saying that they're not open to ideas -- they want an echo chamber, not an open platform for discussion which Facebook (while crude) facilitates far more so than their new alternative version would. It's essentially building bubble in which only those who hold similar opinions to your are allowed to enter. And that's a problem, as you note, since it means people aren't willing to engage. It's a similar situation with how Wikipedia is a much more trustworthy and objective repository of facts than Conservapedia is.

At least, that's how I'm reading the situation.

    Yeah, I'm hardly a conspiracy. :p

But hey, if conservatives want their own exclusive SNS then let them. barely anyone will pay attention, just like any other stunt these folks pull. And yes, there are plenty of idiotic super-liberals who do the same stupid ***** as well. I'm lookin at you, Al Gore, and your not-so-inconvenient truths.

My experience on Facebook, since I live in Oklahoma, is that it is packed to the gills with conservatives who never suffer any kind of persecution.
