Sounds like a very private matter.

At least you weren't this guy:

Of course things like that are just one of many that I am a specialist in.

But speaking of Limmie--is anyone else ecstatic that the Jets are 0-3?

Oops. You would be right--they're 1-2, not 0-3. You know, we've never established who owns the Jets these days...could it be...Calo Mornd?

Nah, he's too busy doing cliche bad guy things to run a Limmie team. :p

Oh, and if you could change that 1-2 of the Jets to an 0-3, I'll feel much better. :D

Friends, I have been revolving a crazy idea in my head. And, naturally, I'd like to discuss it in OOB.

I read a while back that Russia's premier hockey league has created a loser's bracket for their non-playoff teams this year. And tonight I was thinking about this and the fact that the winners will get some sort of draft pick prize in addition to credits, and the aforementioned article's idea that the top pick overall should go to the winner of said tournament.

And then I thought about this game.

What would people say to having a consolation bracket that determines draft order for the non-playoff teams here? And the owners in all of you can think about the added revenue that would result from one more game in the season. :D

Well, I like having more games, but this brings up something I don't like: the last-place team can lose their last game and be relegated to the fourth pick, while a team that just barely misses out on the playoffs can get the top pick. This is why I've never liked the NBA lottery system; it doesn't really make sense.

Absolutely possible. In know in the NHL lottery (at least the pre-lockout version, there may be some changes coming after this season) you could only ever moved down by one spot, but you could jump up by a maximum of four. I have no idea how this worked out, but I know that's how it worked. Which is pretty much how Edmonton got 3 out of the last 4 number one draft picks in the last four years, or something like that. I know it's at least been 2 out of 3.

One model could be that only the number 1 draft pick is up for grabs--everybody else gets bumped down by a maximum of one spot (i.e. the 7th ranked team wins it all and gets the top spot, 10th ranked team that lost in the opening game now gets the second overall draft pick instead of the first, the 9th ranked team that lost in the consolation championship match gets the third pick, and the 8th ranked team that lost in the opening round gets the fourth pick). If it's among four teams, however, that can be a potentially big hit. Just a random idea to contribute to the conversation. I'm not sold on a loser's bracket for us, just something to ponder.

I'm ambivalent on the idea. On one hand, it would ensure that everyone has at least one postseason game and prevents a team with a lost season from tanking the last game to get the top pick (not like the dice roller technically allows that, but a week 7 loss could be roleplayed that way). On the other hand, it seems complicated, but that may just be the fact that it's 3:00 in the morning and I should be in bed asleep right now. I'll think about it and post further thoughts tomorrow later this afternoon.

I think the loser should just sit on the sideline and contemplate what went wrong. There's nothing more grating than realizing how close you came to Limmie immortality and having the entire playoffs/off-season to stew about it and plan for next year. I just think that when you lose and you're on the outside looking in at the playoffs, it gives you time to really plan your draft strategy (as if that really makes a difference for next year). So, bottom line, let's keep it as is.

By the way, great Rim War game. Senators come out of Six Boroughs with a thrilling win. Two giants in the Solo Conference are feeling the pain right about now and there are still plenty of games in the season!

Solid victory, Gunny. Glad to have our little rivalry back.

After thinking about it more, I'm leaning toward agreeing with Liam on the consolation playoffs.

And the Storm beat the Jets in the snow. Now how much does it cost to buy two wins in a row? :p

You know what? At first I kind of liked this idea. It would give everyone a chance for at least one more game. But the more I think about it too I think we should just let the playoff teams continue on and let the non-playoff teams stay home and sulk.

That sounds pretty conclusive then! No changes to the draft or playoffs then.

As for getting two wins in a row, I think the price is two losses in a row, at least if this season is any indication for me! And conference losses too. "You're killing me Smalls."

Damn, now I really wish I had beaten the Jets, because then they'd be 0-4. :p

    Anyways,

Look at the new S16 scores before you read this.

My observations on the Super 16 season

    • Hexton Cordell has his Rovers out in front again. What do you expect from the man who fought aliens in black suits, and had Captain America at his disposal?
    • Citadel University of Anaxes looks strong again despite not having Will Detra anymore, and are looking to make up for last season's flop when push came to shove.
    • We've got logjams galore. The Crendan Division has 5 teams at 4-3, and the Kayl'hen has 5 at 3-4. The playoff picture will be more settled after next week's action.
    • CorTech looked lethargic against UK. Probably going to be another "close, but not quite" season for the Mean Green.
    • BCC . . . yeah, Quillan Sands was definitely their lifeblood, and now that he's gone the Merchants can't buy a win.
    • The CoF is struggling a little bit. Perhaps their surprising runs to the playoffs will end this season.
    • The AFA looked decent this season, but can they finish the deal?
    • GVSU has been up-and-down, and try to get to the playoffs. Same for OSU.
    • Cinnagar Imperial College has started to falter down the stretch. They don't seem to be able to take on their own Division.
    • Rep. U looks strong again. Can they finish the deal this time and show that the nerds can play Limmie with the best of them?

    Too priceless! [face_laugh]

Jedi Gunny I couldn't resist giving Coruscant the Final with Mornd running around doing who knows what. It was too good an opportunity to pass up! I figure I might as well join in on the insanity. :D

And as for the Super 16 scores...
Of course Cordell has bounced back! The Old Dog doesn't get to be old without having a few tricks to keep the magic fresh. ;) Funny you should mention him though...he might be making a cameo...

Careful with the insanity bit, or you'll have Mornd attempting to blow up the stadium during the Final. :p
