That would be pretty sweet. Lucas losing the franchise was the best thing for it.

Force, no - too much (potential) meddling going on.

There's already enough meddling in Adywan's edits as it is, and clueless meddling at that. I'll never understand why anyone would trust somebody to re-edit a movie other than the filmmaker themselves (like it or not that's what Lucas was on ESB and ROTJ-- no different than if a hands-on producer like Alexander Korda wanted to recut "Thief of Bagdad" or if Walt Disney wanted to trim "Snow White"), especially when that somebody has demonstrated a clear lack of respect and understanding of the original work. Sure, sure, he restores Han shooting first to all its badass, idiotic glory. But anyone who thinks eliminating the cut from Tarkin to the Death Star exploding just so you can add some additional SFX is, at the very least, not the hands I'd want the saga entrusted to.

Oh, and some of Giacchino's music in the first season of "Lost" is nice, but after a while all of his stuff sounds the same. And his "Star Trek" score is abysmal at best, so I could give a damn what he retweets.

Yes, I'm sure that, given Lucas' dislike of corporations messing with artists' movies, he's totally given Disney full rights to edit and generally mess with his movies. Totally.

I'd much prefer the OOT be the, "official," versions personally. Y'know, the films that actually made film history as opposed to the patchwork embarrassments we've been getting since 1997 that just get worse.

I'll just stick to the Blu-ray versions, thanks very much.

Fan edits are often messy and dilute the idea the film maker had in mind.

Amen, at least on the bit about fan edits. As I noted in another thread, the problem with Star Wars Revisited is that it basically repeats the error of the Special Editions (and everything afterward) by actually tweaking the movie instead of just updating the effects. That can be annoying enough when done by the actual creator; when done by a fan, it just strikes me as presumptuous.

So I would not want to see this happen.

They should put Harmy, creator of the Despecialized Editions, in charge instead.

Oh, for Pete's sake leave the movies alone.

To paraphrase John Adams in "1776", some people won't be satisfied until they remove one of the O's from Han Solo's name.

Fixed. I mean, you completely missed the point of that quote, but whatever. At least the sources are put in the right place.

I didn't miss your point, I just don't agree with it.

EDIT: I tried to fix the quote, but something got screwed up

The best possible thing would be that the original edits, the despecialized and Adwyn edits, and the half dozen GL cuts all be released in a box set. I'm also really liking Adywan's proposed edits for the PT. Disney NEEDS to hire this guy.

Besides, that scene was just one of many more embarrassing changes. Getting butthurt about people (rightly) complaining about Lucas' nonsense doesn't make said nonsense less crappy.

Quick question-- does Adywan actually restore the scene to its original version, or just take the SE version, edit out Greedo's blast, and move from there? I ask this because to me, the bigger problem with the change isn't so much Greedo firing a blast (he was already pointing the gun at Han, so it's fair game for Han to shoot him) but rather the long shot take that's added to show them both shooting at the same time. I've often wondered if some of the more die-hard Firsters would even notice if you gave them the SE version of the scene, minus Greedo's blast.

But anyway. Didn't Adywan originally cut out the famous "Tarkin to Death Star explosion" edit just to add in a bunch of superfluous FX? That change alone really should disqualify him from being the voice of reason.
