Discussion what will happen to the pre-establish EU after RotJ when they make VII

I don't care much for the bulk of the EU, but I do have a place in my heart for Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy.

I'm just a little curious how this will be handled; will most of it be retconned, will they mention some of it? (IE some references like, "remember Thrawn? That was fun...")

I can't imagine the author of the story of SW VII writing around the pre-established EU, as that would just restrict him too much.

So how do you think it will be handled?

The Post-RotJ EU will either be massacred, or it won't. I'm hoping the latter is the case, but we must wait to find out what the case will be. If it is massacred, I'd have to ask why GL allowed the Post-EU to happen as he allowed it to happen in the first place just to have it destroyed. By Post-RotJ EU I mean the novels and nothing else.

oh I just read the sticky at the top of the VII forum...sorry...my bad...Didn't know posting this was against the rules...

 

I think the EU will become like the superhero movies/comic take Batman for example it's the movies who have their storylines then it's the comics who have theirs.

 

In before the lock (or will it be a merge?)

But in reply to the original post, none of us will know, or can predict, what will happen to that section of the EU until the film is released.

 

It's very simple, he allowed it to happen in the first place because he wasn't going to make any more movies. And that's the reason it was allowed to do what it did. That deal has now obviously been altered.

Sure we can predict it. There's been 40+ years of in-universe character development in the post-Return of the Jedi EU. I predict they will adapt zero of it and only pick and choose characters and concepts; etc.

And I'll put every Republic credit that I own on this.

EDIT: And credits will do fine.
