I've never actually seen these Adwyn cuts. I'm going to have to devote an afternoon to looking at it at some point.

I would have the SFX in ROTJ improved. Especially the space battle.

Perhaps you would care to see my post on here titled Star Wars Re-imagined. Better explains my ideas.

I am currently writing a fanfic that revises certain parts of the CT to be more coherent with the PT (though I am eliminating the microscopic parasites that shall not be named). Here are some of the highlights:
    The Ewoks are gone.
Shira Brie appears in the Echo Base Medbay as Luke's girlfriend, thus eliminating the squicky scene.
Shadows of the Empire is being improved to include a better portrayal of Leia and also a scene where Shira betrays Luke to Vader. (still working on the details of that)
On Dagobah in ROTJ, Luke will also ask Obi-Wan about his mother as Leia couldn't possibly know anything.
Mara Jade will make at least a cameo appearance at Jabba's Palace.
Depending on how things shape up, I may give Mara a bigger role in ROTJ and then write a finale titled 'The Knights of the New Republic' which shows both the establishment of the New Republic and the founding of the New Jedi Order. Of course, given the massive amount of Post-Endor material to work with, that may well become another series by itself.

So, by making it more coherent with the PT, you mean adding in extraneous stuff from the EU?

These are both excellent points, and the changes you suggest would considerably improve the film. In both cases, we get to see more of Leia's personality, and there would actually be a genuine, interesting conflict between Luke and Leia (one of Jedi's greatest flaws is that there's no conflict between the protagonists; everyone's all chipper and happy-go-lucky, even between Han and Lando).

That's actually another point I forgot to make and another thing I would tweak a little. As they all board the Millennium Falcon after the rescue I would have Han suddenly deck Lando. I think it could be quite humorous and also show that Han doesn't simply forgive and forget. That said I do love the film the way it is but no film I've come across is without a few flaws. These are just a few I've noticed and what I would have done differently.

Pretty much any change that gives Han and Leia more room to stretch out and be "themselves" would be most welcome. I like the idea of Han hitting Lando (and you brought up another subtlety; a sequence showing the gang boarding the MF on Tatooine would have plenty of potential).

There isn't much I'd change as far as the film editing.

ANH is plodding for a modern audience at least in the first act. But I'd leave it alone. With one exception -- when Luke runs to the speeder at the site of the Jawa attack to run home to Beru and Owen -- that scene feels like it takes 100 years for Luke to get into the speeder, I'd edit that down.

I'd remove most (not all) of the SE changes.

I'm all for the removal of matte lines, print cleanups, digital compositing of old source elements, etc.

There are still plenty of technical errors that need to be fixed. Luke's lightsaber is still all over the place in color in ANH. There are spots in ANH where Vader's lenses are see through. The plans for the Death Star are an incorrect drawing (the weapon dish is on the equator). The rebel targeting computers show Vader's tie fighter even though it is completely unique and hasn't joined the battle yet.

    HIRE ADYWAN, Lucasfilm!!!

What I would do is leave the first two films completely alone. And by that I mean the original OT films. Just clean them up a little. Yes they have flaws but the flaws are minor and these films are classics.

As for ROTJ...I would travel back in time and re-do the whole thing. Completely new script. The changes in my imaginary script are too numerous to mention, but chiefly...

~ Luke would not start the film as a fully-fledged Jedi knight with no additional training from Yoda. In ESB, Yoda warned Luke not to face Vader yet precisely because Luke hadn't finished his training and was not ready. In my version, that important fact wouldn't just disappear in a puff of pink smoke. At the bare minimum, we would hear a reference to the fact that Luke completed his training in the time in-between films.

~ Han's rescue would be shorter, and the rescue plan itself would actually make sense.

~ Luke and Leia would not be brother and sister.

~ Of course Luke would remain the lead character, but Han and Leia (and their relationship) would be better-developed.

    ~ No Death Star 2.

    1) Han shoots first [ that's not a change so much as a change back]
    2) Something else besides a second Death Star
    3) Ease up on the Luke/Leia liplock

If you are talking the actual originals, I can live with everything else. Otherwise, it would take several pages to explain.

    A New Hope
-Change Darth Vader's voice so it matches the rest of the movies.
-Add a lot more stuff going on in the background during the Battle of Yavin so it looks like a BIG attack!
-Speed the general pace of the movie up. IMO it's pretty drab and slow in places.

    The Empire Strikes Back
-CG the Tauntauns, space slug and maybe the AT AT's.
-Change Vaders line back to the snappy "Bring my shuttle"
-People may kick off over this one, but...CG Yoda.

    Return of the Jedi
-More B-wing action during the Battle of Endor as was originally planned. Even just a few shots here and the would be pretty awesome.
-No TIE's suddenly appearing out of nowhere when the fleet gets ambushed.
-Stick in the deleted scene from the blu ray where Han and the team are fighting through the bunker. THAT was awesome.

You know, after a while of thinking, here's what I'd change in the CT, come to think of it.

    ANH-- Han shoots first. But...

...Greedo shoots second and smokes his ass.

Honestly, Han's one of the less important characters to me personally, and the cult that's risen up around him at the expense of the rest of the cast and saga just hurts the movies after a while. I don't really identify with a badass space cowboy who breaks the law, gets the girl and doesn't really contribute to the grand revolution against the empire. I don't really give a damn his side of things, so I'd be just as happy to imagine a "Star Wars" that did away with him and allowed us to concentrate on the more interesting issues of the Force, the Jedi, Sith and politics of it all. I don't need this cookie-cutter American western stereotype to be my "in" to the franchise.

So, you've got a time machine, I've got a gun-- Let's kill Han. Chewie can still escort Luke and Ben on the Falcon and join their adventures rescuing Leia, etc. They can still be on the run from Jabba because of Han's debt, etc. Threepio can translate everything the big damn wookie says, letting Chewie become the heroic figure there. Hell, I'd even say let him hook up with Leia, while we're at it, and growl the equivalent of "I know!" before he's frozen in carbonite.

And of course, he gets a medal. I think Han's death is a small price to pay for Chewie's medal.

He's a secondary character at best, but to listen to a lot of fans you'd think that the whole thing is centered around him. I generally think these testoserone injected alpha-male characters don't really belong in most of these high concept sci-fi/fantasy franchises, anyway, except as a way to attract a wider audience that might ordinarily be put off by the genre. They're fine for that purpose at first, but after a while I just don't give a damn about them-- part of what killed something like "Lost", for instance, was abandoning the more purposeful mythic characters like Locke while spending way too much time on Sawyer. One of the reasons I generally prefer the PT nowadays is the fact that it doesn't feel the need to add a strutting, womanizing cowboys with a giant ego into the mix.

I would replace the Ewoks with Gungans, but not just any Gungans, oh no. I would reveal the final fate of Jar Jar Binks: large scale cloning. Yup. The legion of elite stormtroopers on Endor gets taken out by a swarm of Jar Jars, all screaming "Meesa help! Meesa help!" Meanwhile, Vader and Luke settle their differences before the Emperor by engaging in a high stakes game of Galactic Dance-off from Kinect Star Wars. They share a touching moment of familial bonding before grasping hands, turning to the Emperor and disintegrating him with their "Care Bear Stare." They escape the Death Star just before Lando swoops in and blows the thing up(but in the Falcon I replace the Sullustan with a hot Twi'lek girl because Fanservice). Leia reveals that she loves Luke because he is her brother, and Han says that is "pretty hot" before embracing Luke in a manly fashion. Vader yells "nooooooo!" and disowns his son(he does come from a more fundamentalist denomination of the Jedi religion after all), and the last thing we see is a giant statue of George Lucas giving the finger with a plaque that reads "I have altered the Trilogy. Pray I do not alter it further." Roll credits.

If he wasn't a fundamentalist Jedi, he wouldn't have had a reason to hide his relationship. I'll also be editing the Prequels so that he fell to the darkside primarily due to pent up Catholic guilt. Actually that isn't really that far off from what happened, at least in part.

You not caring about a primary character does not demote him to secondary status. It just means you didn't like the character.

I'm always up for a good sacred cow drubbing. Greedo could not only do away with Han, but replace him as well. "Oomma dooma, Leia," is better than "my hands are dirty too."
