I heard the voice actor for Palpatine/Darth Sidious passed away a little while back but they managed to do most of season 5 already before he did pass. But now that they are towards the end of season 5 does anyone know if his work is still being used or has the new voice actor been in the last couple episodes. Wonder what the new voice actor will sound like.

I don't think there's been any confirmation. There was just that "Petty crooks" line in "Revival" where his voice was noticeably off.

I wanted to know the same thing. Anybody in Canada know if Palpatine has a speaking role in this episode? I thought i heard that The Lawless was Ian's last performance.

    It's likely Tim Curry.

I would think the actors who actually played the characters in the movies would probably be a little too expensive for them to warrant the idea for a cartoon that only a very small percentage of fans are going to watch anyway. Plus their schedules would probably already be full.

well they could have used Hayden for Anakin since he wanted to reprise his role

But they didn't because Hayden can only play one aspect of Anakin - the hurt, depressed Anakin. He's good at that one aspect, but unfortunately lacks at all others. That's why they picked Matt Lanter - he's managed to pull off happy-go-lucky Anakin, protective of Ahsoka-Anakin, and anger building up and about to punch you in the face Anakin.

Besides that, what makes a good visual actor can often heavily differ from what makes a good voice actor. An actor's best asset is their expressions, and they can't use them with voice work.

TOS said that Lawless was one of Abercombie's last roles as Palpatine.

Presumably "The Lawless" was his last major appearance, as they dedicated that episode to him. Maybe he'll appear with a line or two in another episode.

Put simply the responses were probably like this

Samuel L Jackson, "yeah that's great we'd love you to be in it"

Christopher Lee "yeah that's great we'd love you to be in it"

    Hayden Christiansen, "We'll call you"

Palpatine's final line in The Lawless doesn't sound like Abercrombie to me. The register is a little deeper, closer to 'petty crooks'. Just an observation.

I think "Do not worry, I'm not going to kill you. I have...other uses for you. [cackles]" was done by another VA.

They pay Anthony Daniels. And Peter Mayhew guested as Chewie. If he's on as infrequently as Anthony Daniels, it may not be too bad. On the other hand, if his role is expanding, all the more reason to have a great voice for Palpatine.

I think they would have at least approached McDiarmid, who has always seemed very keen to reprise the role of Palpatine (in regards to a sequel film or live action series, at least). Whether or not it worked out with scheduling and what not remains to be seen.

I disagree, I think Sidious' final line in The Lawless is definitely still Ian Abercrombie. As Midnight Cowboy said in the commentary, he captured perfectly the deeper, more guttural side of Sidious' voice we see in certain parts of ROTS.

Clive Revill is still around. He has some experience with Star Wars.
