A Kenobi spinoff gets my vote! (and so does this petition)

Regarding an Obi-Wan Spinoff...we all know he is hanging out on Tatooine to protect Luke. And I doubt he would take a chance on leaving Tatooine even for a short time, knowing that Vader and The Emperor are still out there seeking to destroy any surviving Jedi. How much story can a studio "mine" from one location on a desert planet that has already been featured in 4 of the 6 movies. I just don't see a plausible way to make a movie with those limitations.

 

Yeah and a movie set on Tatooine the whole entire time would just be very boring.

 

Yeah, I can picture it. Obi-Wan chasing the constant thieving Jawa out of his house, smoking hashish with the friendly neighborhood sandpeople, nights at Jabba's local bordello, and the occasional DUI bust at Mos Eisley. Sounds great.

 

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a Obi-Wan spinoff film.

Obi-Wan is my favorite character of all time. However, I don't think we should do a spin off of Obi-wan. Instead I propose a trilogy of Obi-wan. Thats right three movies. In case your wondering, I signed the petition.

There is actually a lot of cool things that could be done without leaving Tatooine. For example, I would love it if Liam Neeson returned as Qui-Gon's force ghost similar to how Obi-Wan appeared to Luke in ESB. Obi-Wan could learn how to become one with the force after death from Qui-Gon and have some spiritual journeys around Tatooine as part of his training. Obi-Wan could potentially get into trouble with Jabba the Hutt and be taken to Jabba's palace, or he could be captured by Sand People. There is a lot going on on Tatooine. He could also be drawn into dangerous situations by trying to protect Luke or the Lars Moisture Farm.

 

Yeah but....IT'S A BORING FREAKING DESERT!

Having a Star Wars movie without stars is like having a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without pirate ship batt-
Oh wait.

 

Sure...but the story arc would be so limited, given Obi-Wan's responsibility to protect Luke. I just don't see it being a story worth telling.

 

Who says it has to be inbetween ep3 and 4? An event shortly before TPM or maybe even a live action clone wars movie with Obi-Wan as the main character?

 

Indeed, no reason for it to be in that time frame.
Ewan McGregor is young enough that he can still play a AOTC/ROTS Obi-Wan, without wearing too much make up or having to recast someone.

EDIT - The other option is to have an Obi-Wan movie that is set after ROTJ. Just him floating about. That'd be awesome. Hah.

 

Finally, the fans get to find out what happened in that desert...

 

What happens in the Tatooine desert, stays in the Tatooine desert.
