It can just damage the nasal cavities because air can't pass through them, apparently.

 

Mine just says to not hold your nose as you blow out the water. I love that feeling of searing hot water melting through the snot walls and letting sweet, sweet air back into my brain.

Joe, air already can't pass through them. It's the entire reason why I bought the Neti pot in the first place.
