Welcome to the Saga Forum, a place for in-depth discussions of the Star Wars Film Saga as a whole. This forum is not solely for in-universe topics - broader subjects such as how Star Wars was developed, what influenced its creation, and the cinematic techniques it employs are more than welcome, and strongly encouraged.

This is not the place for canon debates, "What-if?" threads or discussing the Expanded Universe.

Discussions regarding the Sequel Trilogy of Episodes VII-IX are currently only permitted if they relate directly to the existing Saga, and only based on officially released content or information. Head on over to the Episode VII - Spoilers Allowed or the Episode VII - No Spoilers Allowed forums for specific discussions about the new films currently in production.
Please also note the Saga Forum's policy regarding spoilers here: http://boards.theforce.net/threads/sw-saga-in-depth-forum-eps-vii-ix-spoiler-policy.50019106/

Before starting a new thread, please take a look at the existing threads first to see if your topic is already being discussed.

The Jedi Council Forums Rules and the Terms of Service must be followed at all times. Personal attacks and insults, flame wars and trolling will not be tolerated. Remember, people - films, not fans.

The following is our policy on the use of the Reporting Function. It is our hope that this will clarify what the goal is behind the feature and curtail some of the unnecessary and inappropriate usage.

The purpose of the Report Function is to alert the moderator(s) to flagrant and obvious rule violations that may require moderator action. The Report Function should be used to report serious trolling, flaming, spamming, language violations or a spamvertiser. Increasingly, the Report Function is being used by members as a way to 'punish' another user because of a difference of opinion. This is not an acceptable use of the Report Function. Should you have a question as to whether another user is 'flaming' or 'trolling', you should contact the forum moderator via PM for clarification or to discuss the situation - please do not utilize the Report Function in for instances that are not (as previously stated) flagrant and obvious rule violations.

Should a user abuse the Report Function, that user may be subject to a ban. Abuse is generally defined as utilizing the Report Function multiple times for issues ranging from a difference of opinion to a general complaint about another user. We will not attempt to outline every scenario of abuse in this policy. Bans will be issued after review by the forum mods and/or an administrator and may range from 24 hours or longer depending on the severity of the abuse.

Some clarification regarding references to the Expanded Universe in this forum:

This is a forum for discussing the six existing films of the Star Wars Saga, not the various spin-off novels, comics et al. While there will always be a certain amount of flexibility when it comes to instances which are not explained in the films, EU references must be identified as such, and not laboured upon.

Discussions focused upon EU-only topics - e.g. Grand Admiral Thrawn, the cloned Emperor Palpatine, KOTOR-era Sith and so on - are not permitted. Threads started which address such topics will be locked or redirected immediately, as will any threads which degenerate into discussion solely around such EU material.

There are a number of 'EU' sources which can be considered grey areas and are permitted to a certain extent - these include (but are not necessarily limited to) the film novelisations, the Star Wars Holiday Special, the Ewok films, and the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye.
Such sources are considered to be grey areas based upon the direct involvement of George Lucas in their creation - should any other sources be shown to bear such influence (e.g. some concrete evidence regarding GL's involvement in Dark Empire), then feel free to bring them up, but only in the context of their place in George Lucas' vision of the SW Saga, as opposed to Lucasfilm's broader canon.

As stated above, there must be a certain amount of flexibility and understanding about the EU spilling into this forum on occasion. However, if anyone wishes to discuss a topic with no EU material whatsoever coming into it, please state so very clearly in the thread title or opening post.
Referencing EU sources repeatedly in threads which have specifically asked for it not to be included is not acceptable, and users doing so may have their access to the forums limited as such.

You might notice that a number of threads in Saga now have a grey 'BTS' tag attached to them, rather than the familiar yellow 'Saga' one.
This stands for 'Behind the Scenes', and can be used to denote discussions which address topics centering around how the Star Wars Saga came to be - story/script development, conceptual art, special effects and so on.

If you click on one of the grey BTS tags, it will filter out all the threads without it.

When starting a new thread, simply click on where it says 'Saga', to the left of the Thread Title field, and a drop-down menu appears with the prefix options.

'Saga' still applies to topics about the finished films themselves (call them 'in-universe' discussions), it's also the default option.
