He could save others from death, but not himself.

"Could cheat death" and "was immortal" do not mean the same thing.

I actually think the whole story of Plagueis makes for a great book, but is so steeped in political intrigue that it would make for a terrible film.

As for him being in the ST, it wouldn't make any sense, absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Being able to bring Venamis back to life and being unkillable are two different concepts. Plagueis wasn't unkillable.

I'm not saying that. Just saying it's possible that Palpatine didn't kill him.

To use an EU example, maybe Plagueis is Darth Krayt and Palpatine is Darth Wyyrlok.

That's the interpretation given in the novel. It doesn't matter unless they decide to include it in the ST for some reason.

Again, that's EU. We don't know if the EU is respected in the ST (all evidence points to No, though). In the PT the galaxy was supposedly in balance for a thousand years (or generations?).

How would Plagueis justify a Sequel trilogy? We need a political threat too, an army. Otherwise there'd be no Wars in Star Wars.

I posted a more detailed possible explanation for this earlier in this thread but the gist was:

Palpatine did kill him. He was able to retain his identity through his knowledge from his research on how to cheat death/create life, but didn't have a full grasp of exactly how to perfect the process, hence Anakin and so was floating around much like disembodied Qui-Gon just observing.

Qui-Gon learned how to become a Force Ghost, though he couldn't do it himself and taught that to Yoda and Obi-Wan, while Plagueis also figured out how to perfect his own process but lacked an available source of midichlorians...currently monopolized by Anakin during his life.

Anakin is not only physically affected but his abilities and connection with the Force become nowhere near as what they could have been during the Vader years implying a loss of midichlorians - more available midichlorians for Plagueis to play with...resulting in what happened at the exact same time as Vader's birth...the twins' birth. One of the twins is Plagueis successful attempt at creating life templated off the original fetus. Padme didn't know she was having twins, or she would have told Anakin when she said she was pregnant. Yoda and Obi-Wan were surprised when the medical droid told them she was as well. This is also a new take on what killed Padme - Plagueis creating life in the form of a twin within her (either one). The droid did say after all that it had no idea why she was dying...just that she was and everybody just reluctantly bought into her losing the will to live from a broken heart.

Part II of Plagueis' return plan requires more midichlorians which Anakin/Vader's death easily provides for him. He may or may not even require the twin to be his vessel for return...which, if he did, would have happened at the end of RoTJ. Luke looking onto his Force Ghost mentors could really be Plagueis chuckling at himself all "Haha! I got you!" Or Leia looking around all spaced out and in awe and distracted while Han's trying to talk to her could now be Plagueis looking at life again for the first time in a long while. A New Jedi Order created and guided by Luke or Leia all the while really being Plagueis creating and shaping a new Sith Order.

He easily avoids the repercussions of the Prophecy and the Force's backlash at him for Anakin's creation, achieved his plan of revenge with destroying the Jedi Order through his plan that Sidious co-opted, and got rid of all the biggest threats possible: Sidious, Yoda, Anakin - all without lifting a finger.

As the PT and OT paralleled the World Wars, the time of peace between OT and ST will parallel the Cold War between say a Galactic Alliance and a New Republic, while the ST itself will be the results of what happens when those checks and balances no longer exist - a race to become the next superpower while the surviving superpower decays into the very thing it fought against in its inception.

Interesting insight Tan-Wessel, but I do hope Plagueis does not return via Luke or Leia.

If he does return in another vessel, they can have the pick of the liter as far as options for Plag's physical appearance. They could choose from any species of alien we've already seen or create an entirely new one.

Three of the four Sith we've seen in the films have been humans already so I hope it is something different this time around.

I'm not a fan of a Muun's looks but if Plag's "never dying" or "being resurrected" is best for the plot, I'm sure they will find a way to make him look better/cooler than San Hill.

But what is the role Plagueis plays? Remember, we already got this whole "Sith Lord is behind it all and Jedi do not know about it" plot in the PT.

    1. That was the explanation that Lucas approved of. He was highly involved with that book,

    2. No, it's mentioned in the movies too ("once more the Sith will rule the galaxy"..."the oppression of the Sith will never return").
And no, none of the evidence points to "no."
And the movies just said it's been a thousand years since a galactic war, and a thousand generations since the Jedi were guardians of peace and justice.

    3. Obviously. You don't think Plagueis would be returning without a starfleet and army? That's probably one of the reasons why he's been waiting for so long. I expect there to be multiple Sith in the ST, no more "rule of two."

The idea of Plagueis having been in hiding building an army sounds too similar to Revan. I doubt they'd go with that idea.

I'm pretty sure the bad guy being in hiding, building an army, is much more common than that.

And it's basically guaranteed to happen in the ST, no matter who the main character villain is. I really doubt they're going to go the "civil war" route for the 3rd trilogy in a row. It's time for an invasion. And I'm 99% sure we're going to get lots of Sith in this trilogy, they'll need to be controlled by one powerful master.

The invasion mastermind, the leader of the Sith, could be quite appealing to the galaxy... as an outsider, after decades of civil wars, he may even be seen as a liberator. And would be quite appealing if he also had the power to stop people from dying... Plagueis the Liberator, Plagueis the Life-Giver. Plagueis the Guardian of Justice...

I like where you're going - do what Sidious failed to do, that is, make the galaxy think that the Sith are a good thing... And maybe even twist that into making them think the Jedi are evil...

Has already be done with order 66 and Palpatines speech in front of the senate on how the Jedi were traitors. It worked well enough for 25 years.

I hope we don't get lots of Sith. Sith should be unique, something special, not merely canon fodder for the heroes to dispose of.

I see. Though Arndt now writes the script. Who knows what he will do? There's hoping he'll give us a better interpretation of the prophecy.

Or what if Plagueis influenced the midichlorians to create a Hulk, then he wouldn't need an army.

If i had to guess I'll say there will be no Darth Plagueis but a character very similar. Theyll change the name and his appearance but use a lot of the same ideas. Im reading the book now. Just finished Part 1. I find it kinda boring so far but Im sure it will get better. I'm not eager to see his character in a movie so far. To be fair Im not sure what I was expecting but so far I'm not crazy about him.

I think they will create a new villain so they can create tons of comics/novels/video games/ect explaining this guys origins and other stuff like that. Doing Plagueis would be too simple cause there would be no mystery . Anybody could just go online and google him and already know how he returned, most likely WHY, his origin and a LOT of things that could kinda ruin the point of having us not know what to expect with SW. Nothing against Plagueis, but lets make death final here. Vader is dead, Palpatine is dead, ect. Lets not cheapen death by just ressurecting a character who barely anybody knows and who was *most likely* just mentioned to give Anakin a reason to go to the Dark Side. Doubt there was anything more than that.

FloydB1Kenobi, I'm all about Darth Plagueis rebuilding the Sith Empire starting with Korriban working out to other planets initially with the help of Mandalorians, Darthomirians and Nightsisters leaving the final episode without a dramatic ending where one faction wins but with the Sith Empire and Jedi order rebuilt with the galaxy in full on war between Jedi and Sith setting the foundation for 100 more Star Wars films. Full on Sith orgy of blood with all manner of dark side force users slaughtering Jedi with lightsabers, lightwhips, blasters and dark side voodoo. Straight up Sith porn. There will be Sith (staring Daniel Day Lewis...lol)

That's a pretty fair argument. Good to hear something more than "no because it's stupid and doesn't make sense". Though I do think they could sustain the mystery surrounding Plagueis by waiting until the second or even third movie to reveal his true identity and back story, and most of the audience won't have read the book anyway. But it makes sense for them to go for a new villain that neither the general audience nor Star Wars EU junkies know anything about.

Its more fun to speculate and see fans try to decipher/interpret/theorize everything *and since this is JJ Abrams we're gunna be led in soo many directions its gunna be insane!*. I just can't see fans going as crazy if we know what to expect.
