Yeah, some sort of alternate universe/time travel thing is really the only way to keep the EU, IMO assuming the ST contradicts it.

I'd imagine Chewie would be the easiest to replace, just about any actor who's reasonably tall and can do the growling real well can get handed a couple million to thrash around in the costume. Hell, you could take a guy off the street and overdub the sounds later.

Dude, stop. Just stop. I'm a reasonable person. Episode VII is canon, sorry if it contradicts your precious books. Chewie will definitely be alive, and I wouldn't be shocked if Han and Leia's kids aren't as you want. Even if they have the same names out of fan service, they probably won't be the same characters. Disney did not spend four billion dollars to adapt second-rate authors' (and second-rate is being kind) fan fiction. You can stick your fingers in your ears and cry "non canon!" all you want, but don't call me unreasonable for not sharing your, ironically, unreasonable expectations.

Gotta join with the "Chewie will be in EPVII" brigade.

I just don't think Disney are that fussed with what's in those books.

Not that I know for a fact, just how I see it.

I want to see Chewie for sure, but not in the same role as alien sidekick. I'd prefer him to have more of a command role not unlike Ackbar in ROTJ, perhaps even working alongside Han in a command position. But I don't want him running about with the main cast of characters throughout all three films. Maybe they could introduce a new non-human secondary character? What sort of character types are there to pull from? Jar Jar was the comic relief jester, Chewie was the faithful warrior companion.

If you would read the previous comments I've made, you'll see that I clearly agree with your stance. But, if you'd like to continue arguing with someone who agrees with you, go right ahead. :)

Ah, well in your post it just said that "Post-ROTJ is non canon," in context it sounded like you were discussing the movies.

Yes, I understand that. I meant to type "POST ROTJ EU". My bad.

The thing is, the EU was never really canon, despite the claims of Lucasfilm. You can't really have multiple levels of canon, having some things be "mostly canon". That's kind of like being mostly dead. Not really possible. It was just a marketing tool to get people to buy books.

I agree with all who say yes. The public will ask where is Chewbacca? Can you imagine the fun the film critics will have when the movie tries to explain the Vong? Most people will be clueless about the Vong, Darth Caedus etc. Disney is not obligated to continue the EU timeline. I expect a great retcon. Hell, lets get Timothy Zahn to write the stories that explain the time warp or whatever they come up with to explain the EU timeline contradictions.

There is really not any ambiguity about their plans, they have already came out and said that these movies are going to be new original stories. They are not following the EU format. We already know that. They are free to do literally anything they want.

Should Chewie have grey hairs in the ST? I'm not talking an entirely grey Chewie, but even though it's been established that Wookies live significantly longer in the novel adaptations (although it's never been spoken in a film) I'm just thinking that if Chewie shows up and looks ... well, exactly like he looked in ROTJ and plop him beside older Han, Leia & Luke, that would be a bit jarring. I'm saying they age him where he looks definitely older, but not decrepit, but, y'know, I forseen Chewie with grey hairs throughout his once mighty youthful brown coat.

I agree, he will looked aged. I can even see Han making a few wise cracks about how old they have both become.

    Perhaps Chewie will experience Wookie-Pattern-Baldness.

Just piping up to indicate that yes, of coursethe Chewie will be in Episode VII. Why would Disney care about the EU? It's ridiculous to think that the EU will be taking into consideration when it comes to the theatrical movies. I love the EU, But it's just fanfic by people who really know how to write. (except for Kevin J Anderson of course)

The way I see it, a lot of the post-ROTJ EU is doomed. If Lucas doesn't even care about the EU (see Clone Wars) then Disney will definitely not go out of their way to adhere to it.

Tone the grey down about 20% and I think we're there. Of course, more continuity-minded fans will be like "Geez, for a wookie he's aged terribly in the last 40-50 years!" but it makes sense to show that Chewbacca has gotten older.

That would make perfect sense, Chewie has to be lonely if Han goes off and marries Leia. Needs something to fill the Han-sized void in his soul.
