That was my initial theory, but it seems as if Barriss is self-motivated. For her, Dooku could represent all that's detrimental about the Jedi Order. He's a former hardline Jedi, now a hardline Sith. If Barriss is so intent on punishing the Jedi for "serving the Dark Side", then why would she align herself with the one confirmed, out-and-proud Sith in the Galaxy? Certainly, a new apprentice could give Dooku a chance in the intra-Sith rivalry now that Ventress and Savage are gone, but it's harder to imagine Barriss being that apprentice than her serving in other capacities.

Palpatine, meanwhile, can take on different personas for different people. As Chancellor, he could present to Barriss a facade of being a reluctant leader, pressed into accruing more power by the likes of the corrupt Jedi Order and the Senate militarists. The rumours of the existence of "Darth Sidious" don't appear to be taken seriously by the Jedi beyond the Council due to the apparent existence of a Sith duo in Dooku and whatever apprentice he takes on, and many Jedi probably have never even heard of Sidious. Barriss, with a commuted death sentence, could be gradually brought under more and more influence by Sidious through whatever persona he chooses.

Well, I suppose Barriss the Dark Acolyte and new apprentice of Darth Tyrannus would be preferable to dead Barriss.

How so? Her beliefs are totally nonsensical.

"Violence is wrong" only makes sense if peace is an option. And with Dooku and Grievous, it clearly isn't.

I wish for not an evil dark jedi or dark jedi Barriss but one of those Jedi exiled from the order who go on to sever their own purpose and their goals without going to the Dark Side and etc. Barriss doesn't seem like the one who would go "Lol I'm Sith now, K." She's more like the person would try to undermind the Jedi but not the Republic itself.

Bariss is already like Dooku and Krell. There is no notable difference in her words and behaviour. "Jedi council only believes in Violence" These words sounds totaly like Dooku.

I have a lot to say regarding the portrayal of Barriss in this arc. I must admit the first time I found out that Barriss was the culprit behind the bombing, I felt it a blatant retcon of her EU-established character. However, with the entire arc in mind, as well as what little we know of Barriss in TCW itself, and not the EU, I think it makes sense. Clearly she is disillusioned with the war and the Jedi's role in it, and felt she had to make a statement. She realized that the Order has changed and has largely become sycophantic to the Republic Senate, unwilling to step on their toes and seemingly unwilling to bring about a swift conclusion to the war. She has witnessed the decay from within the Order, and is disgusted with the Jedi's complacency and their loss of their original role as peacekeepers as opposed to warriors.

What is clearly interesting about her views on the matter based on her confession is that there is some truth to her ravings. She has obviously witnessed much death and destruction during the war, especially on Geonosis. Hundreds of clones and Geonosians died during that battle, and I imagine that she was horrified at the callousness of the Republic at killing of the Geonosians (General Mundi ordering the use of flamethrowers to burn Geonosians alive!) as well as the fact that Jedi like Anakin and Ahsoka treating war almost like a game (a battle to see who had the highest kill count). To Barriss, that is not the way of the Jedi.

In addition, I felt that Barriss' motivation was eerily similar to this confession by another Jedi disillusioned with the Republic, and the Order:

In fact, I at first thought that the mysterious, unnamed Weequay Jedi seen in Sabotage and The Jedi Who Knew Too Much would be Sora Bulq, and that he could have been the perpetrator or at least pulling the strings of the perpetrator. With the arc now over, I feel that probably unlikely, although I hope that we have not seen the last of this Weequay Jedi, be it Bulq or some as of yet unknown individual.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Barriss' impassioned confession to the tribunal court inspired other Jedi within the other to create a nascent, irreparable schism within the Order? Perhaps we will find out in a future season, but I imagine either way that the consequences of Offee's betrayal will have very lasting effects on the Order up until the end of the Clone War.

Barriss could probably succeed at breaking out on her own if she wants. Sure she is being escorted out and sure security will be tighter than ever however at this point the Republic just doesn't have a very good track record of keeping prisoners behind bars, unless your a Separatist Leader ofcourse. Yeah maybe she could be used to break them out.

Wouldn't it be cool if in a future arc they show more dissident Jedi helping to break Barriss out of prison? Perhaps we might yet have an appearance of additional Dark Acolytes for Count Dooku after all...

I just saw the Krell arc video commentary on the Blu-Ray. I would imagine that didn't go over too well there, either.

That might even be preferable to Barriss being individually drawn into the camps of either Sidious or Tyrannus. She could become a leader of schismatic Jedi, who could serve as another antagonistic (though not necessarily malevolent) force in the series, even if they align with the CIS in the end.

I did think back to the issue of Republic when Mace meets with Bulq's "neutral" faction of Jedi when I saw The Wrong Jedi. There's a whole spectrum of Jedi turncoats, ranging from Dooku to Barriss, via Krell, Sora Bulq and other Dark Acolytes. Barriss seems to be one of the more relatively benevolent of the Jedi traitors, targeting as she does only the military infrastructure of the Republic and the Jedi Order, only really transitioning from "grey" to "dark" as she attempts to frame Ahsoka for the crimes she commits.

I said the other day that I'd like to see a third, unrelated army/organization battling both the Republic and the Seperatists. Barriss should so get involved. :p

Considering the Republic's view on secessionism, I'm wondering how an actively antagonistic third faction (as opposed to Satine's chilling-in-the-Rim Council of Neutral Systems) could affect the politics of the conflict. Maul's co-option of the CNS was aborted before this could be seen. Leadership of this third faction by dissident Jedi would mix things up even more.

I agree, this development would be fascinating for the show to tackle. Unfortunately, due to the show's relative simplicity, I suspect a third faction of such small scale would likely not last too long without being forced to choose a side. For those disillusioned by the Republic, joining Dooku, a political idealist, and the CIS makes sense.

Now that I think about it, based on the implications from the last SW Insider, Filoni and crew seem to have become less fettered by the already existing EU. Perhaps they can retcon Sora Bulq's existing story and create a new one very similar to the Mission to Ruul incident in the comics. Except this time, he has recruited Barriss and other rogue Jedi to his cause. I mean, there is already an existing model for a Weequay Jedi since "Grievous Intrigue", and yet he still does not have a name. I suspect we may see more of this Jedi (Bulq?) in the future. And they don't necessarily have to have Bulq join with Dooku, at least not initially. He could be this leader of the third faction, and I imagine he'd be far more charismatic than a mere Padawan//Knight like Barriss, thus able to attract more Jedi to his order and create a real schism like he intended in the comics.

I recall that this was what happened to the "neutral" Jedi in the comics. Ventress' involvement polarised them very quickly.

It was because of that relatively unsatisfactory conclusion to the schism subplot in the comics (ie. only a handful of Acolytes joined Bulq, and they were in it for the darkness) that I see real promise in the developments with Barriss. Her ideology could lead to a real schism, one which could last until a certain point near the end of the war. Even if she herself is executed and becomes a martyr (disappointing, considering the dynamic she could have with Ahsoka and Anakin) or if Sora Bulq himself doesn't show up (I could live with that if a good original character is created for his role), now would seem like the opportune time for TCW to develop Barriss' ideas to their logical end. I hope that this will be one instance in which the series follows up with major consequences to its plot developments, rather than leave unexplored. The schism you describe is one way this could be done.

If they do end up fighting for the CIS, this could be due to the Republic and mainstream Jedi Order overreaching in their attempt to contain them.

I kinda see the Sith side hearing of Barriss' betrayal and trying to break her out to get her to join them...only she doesn't want to join them either...but then because the Sith broke her out, the Jedi assume she's with them and it all gets muddled.

So when Jacen Solo went completely bonkers in the LOTF series, a bunch of people took to calling him JINO, or Jacen-in-name-only. Shall we give Barriss the same treatment now?

Dunno, maybe because the Supreme Commander of the other side is explicitly out to kill all Jedi? Self-preservation, at the very least. And then there's the whole "Dooku is a Sith Lord" thing.

Perhaps Barriss' fall was related to her bota injection on Drongar? That way, they don't disregard that piece of EU. Maybe it even gave her a moment of clarity, to see what the Republic and Jedi Order have truly become under Palpatine. To complete her transformation, maybe Barriss should have said, "Is it madness to see the future? To see the destruction rushing towards us? To understand there is no escape? No, I am not mad! I am the only sane one left!"

So will Barriss get sentenced to death since that's what they were going to do to Ahsoka? Because it's only fair that she does. I doubt that she'll be allowed to be a Jedi again, but that would make sense why she was in the Battle of Felucia during Order 66.

I'll take any integration of new and existing material wherever it can be found.

It seemed to me that Barriss would have developed her radical ideology at some point between the end of the MedStar series and TCW Season 5. Perhaps her experiences in dealing with the wounded might have affected her in some way.
