I've been tired of seeing this guy demonized because he refused to whore out his country's natural resources to US energy companies when we (the US) support such despotic regimes as the Saudis whose human rights violations dwarf anything that happened under Chavez.

Yeah he said nasty things about the US. Deservedly so. We can thank the blithering idiot that was George Bush Jr for that.

I always had an admiration for him, and I know that he strove to liberate his country's poor in accordance with his faith. My best wishes go out to his family and I offer my prayers for his soul.

i mean only to convey my confidence that the bolivarian revolution will continue without chavez, both in venezuela and in other states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas.

just as cuban democracy has thus far failed to succumb to imperialists' gleeful predictions of collapse into a US client state with castro's retirement, so too will the venezuelan people retain the fruit of the revolution chavez fought for -- if they want it

why wouldnt i be serious? venezuela is a beacon of anti-imperialist, socialist hope in the world, and i wish them to continue along that path

 

who am i to tell the venezuelans what kind of revolution they should be having? the fact is they have had some success liberating themselves from the forces of foreign imperialism and domestic capitalism and i want them to retain this. what kind of doctrinaire psycho wouldnt?

liberation theology and the like works in latin america, and has thus far only complimented progressive, socialist development in that region. it would be unimaginably churlish to argue with those results simply because it doesnt line up with aspects of my theoretical background that i dont even wholly accept anyways
