Just as long as they keep Arnie out of it. He was a reoccurring motif in sci-fi.

Thirding time travel. I don't dislike it per se, but it doesn't fit with the setting.

No time travel, no teleportation, no Earth (maybe not a scifi-theme per se, but then again, most scifi is somehow about Earth).

I know this is far fetched anyway but imagine if they tried to explain the Force with cellular biology & microscopic organisms.

No you're right, i'm just being silly. Sorry

Lame mysteries in the plot due to unknown super high tech mystery devices (think X-Files or Fringe)... or even more high tech civilaztions than the Republic/Empire/New Republic (example no aliens from Crystal Skull, or close enounters of the third kind) though same level of tech but being used in different ways is fine by me (examples Vong or Chriss from EU)

Oh, and fourth or fifth (whatever we're at now) Time Travel.

...But that already happened in episodes I, II, III, & VI

Depending if you consider the nonhuman spieces point of view that is, heh.

But if you meant of Earth, well lets just agree there should be no Earth in this universe to prevent exactly this.

Are you purposing Star Wars should forever be confined to a single galaxy? And all wars in it be solely internal struggles? Dispite all the parrelles in Star Wars to history and it being chocked full of invading armies from previously unknown lands.

What if the Vong was a collective of Spieces that included humans? That would negate this trope a bit... I get where you're coming from but still I cant help but think your thoughts on this arent clear due to being jaded by the one and only example of it we have in the EU

Dont get me wrong I agree the Vong where poorly handled many a times but conceptually theres nothing wrong with invasions from distant lands galaxies, in this setting. It would just need to be handled better, imho.

There is not a single alien invasion story, in any context, that I have ever enjoyed. I don't expect that to change here.

I actually think flying saucers were a perfect fit for the prequel era, given the way SW pays homage to older sci-fi and the general 50s aesthetic, and I kind of wish they'd been in the actual movies. But they probably wouldn't fit as well in the ST.

I agree strongly with the time travel crowd. Leave that to other frachises.

Bringing back dead characters is another one. Star Wars does that with force ghosts, and someone (I forget who) raised the excellent point to me that they also did with Anakin Skywaler (dead in ANH, actually alive as Vader in TESB), but overall let's leave dead dead.

Force Ghosts are fine, because as shown in the films, they don't directly get involved in anything and are also established in the films.

    Villain's motivation is
    A) His homeworld was destroyed/enslaved/whatever and this is his revenge *or he was betrayed by the hero once*
    B) He's a parallel dimension version of the hero or an evil twin
    C) Genticaly altered guy who is evil just because "I'm evil. I'm a sith so I do what I want! Mwah ha ha" *stalks off Loki-style*
*give us a villain with a original, or at least well written motive*
A robot who wants to be human *its been done SOO MANY TIMES*

I actually have a crazy theory that there's going to be an EU time travel story where the universe splits at the end of Jedi with the original Yub Nub ending leading into the Expanded Universe and the Special Edition ending leading into Episode VII, creating two parallel timelines. It's really the only way Post-Jedi EU can continue to exist and I suspect that there are some people behind the scenes thinking about it.

It's a theory...but I don't want to see time travel anywhere near Star Wars.
