PT Palpatine is really suspicious in ROTS

The first four are normal, but alarm bells should really be ringing for 5 onwards.
    1. It seems perfectly legitimate that in the Old Republic academic knowledge about the Jedi and Sith wars would be common
    2. To everyone's knowledge, Palpy is just a regular politician. I am sure there are plenty who wouldn't understand the reluctance of the Jedi to kill when capture and trial would have been sufficient. Palpy can pass it off as having regular political/personal/revenge reasons to wanting that.
    3. He does have a reason, says that they'll never make it if they go back for him
    4. The war makes it look like he needs it, and to most people he seems like he is doing it all for the greater good - just look at history, rarely do people see something suspicious about that.

Now, 5. on the other hand: this is more than can be explained by "he's just a layperson who doesn't appreciate the reasons Jedi do what they do and might think the galaxy was better off being protected by Sith who aren't afraid to use everything they have to do what needs doing".
    6. Again, shows more than a basic academic knowledge of in-universe history
    7. If people know about the Jedi, they would probably know that something like that can't just happen by a Jedi waving their hand.

Yeah, that one is really far-fetched.

If he does not give up his emergency powers after the destruction of Grievous, then he should be removed from office.

The Jedi Council would have to take control of the Senate in order to secure a peaceful transition.

I think he/she means that to a non-Force sensitive, the Force is just something you can use to enhance your power - NFS don't have the same knowledge of the light and dark sides of the Force and why the Jedi exercise control in the way they do. They would just see power, and not understand why someone who had access to that power wouldn't want to take full advantage of it. Whereas a Jedi would know that taking full advantage of the Force, using all of it, in any way, to achieve your goals, can corrupt you and turn you Dark.

It is, actually. Anakin knows that for centuries the Jedi have been peacekeepers. Ordinarily, the Senate would have operated on its own terms and the role of the Supreme Chancellor was more of a glorified Speaker-of-the-House. The SC's role ought to have been more of a facilitator and a figurehead, whereas the Senate would make the real decisions. So, in a world where that's been changing so that more power's been diverted from the Senate to the Chancellor, and then the Chancellor's removed from office, it makes sense that the Jedi would be there to facilitate the return of those powers to the Senate so that they can then elect a new Chancellor and operate the way it was meant to be.

The problem is that Anakin resents the Jedi for a range of personal reasons and trusts Palpatine for a range of personal reasons. He is also not inclined to be suspicious of Palpatine's amassed political power because he's already indicated that he's sympathetic to the notion of a dictatorship - of someone making people agree. Which is basically what Palpy becomes. Anakin thinks he's doing the right thing - which is kind of the crux of this.

Just to intrude upon this debate to make one point:

No one apart from Jedi should have any knowledge of the Sith. It is rather obvious straight from EP1. Heck, most of the galaxy doesn't even know what the Force is, much less the difference between the Light Side and the Dark Side.

In the OT Motti and Co did not believe in the Force at all. Luke had no idea what a Jedi was. Now true, the fact that only 20 years pass between the PT and OT makes this hard to swallow, but that is poor planning. The PT should have been set at least 100 years prior to the OT. They could have made it so Jedi live for at least 200 years or so due to the Light Side. If you can swallow Yoda living for 800 years, 200 years should be no big deal. It would also make sense why Obi Wan is so tired of everything, including living, in the OT, because he has been hiding under the sand for 100+ years. That would drive anyone nuts. They could then gently retcon the fact that Luke + Leia were born in the PT, they could be born in between the two trilogies, and the PT would be about the Empires rise to power (which it kinda was anyway)

After Maul's "death" the Jedi reported the incident to Palpatine- and told him Maul was a Sith.

In the EU, once the Jedi had some evidence suggesting Darth Sidious was real, and not something made up by Dooku- they reported it.

Thus, Anakin wasn't suspicious, since he remembered that the Jedi and Palpatine had been talking about Sith and Sidious for a while.

At least, according to The Rise & Fall of Darth Vader.

And historians, given that they are said to have once ruled the galaxy.

And any politicians who are secretly sleeping with Jedi.

I'm sure Motti became something of a grudging believer after he was choked. :p

Yeah if the Sith once ruled/terrorised the galaxy - I'm fuzzy on what's actually said in TPM because I haven't watched it in years - then it's a fair bet that a rudimentary academic knowledge of the Sith is something that educated people like Palpatine would have.

Remember the first and only reality of the Sith, there can only be two.

In TPM, Ki-Adi Mundi mentioned that the Sith have been extinct for a millennium.
In AOTC, Sio Bibble said that there hasn't been a full scale war since the formation of the Republic which, according to Palpatine, occurred 1,000 years ago.

Whatever this full-scale war was, the Jedi and the Sith were involved in it and the Jedi kicked all the Sith's asses leaving Darth Bane as the only survivor. He then created this "Only 2 Sith" rule where there can only be a master and an apprentice. This Sith lineage has been going on all the way to PalpSidious who now plots to eliminate both the Jedi Order and the Republic so that "once more, the Sith will rule the galaxy".

Actually, Palpatine said to the Senate that 'This republic, which has stood for over a thousand generations'

There is a difference between 1000 generations and 1000 years.
