I'm going to ask something that's been bugging me for years.

Dave Filoni: what's with the hat?

 

My guess? Filoni realized there's an untapped goldmine of storytelling to be had in the gap between ANH and ESB.

 

EU or no EU, I'm excited to see what he'd do without George standing over his shoulder.

I'd also point out that LFL with Disney in charge is giving him a fairer deal than LFL with George in charge gave Tartakovsky.

 

Don't get me wrong - I don't think he's horrible. I've yet to see anything that makes me think he's anything beyond tolerable.

I'd rather have someone else get a shot at the next series. Someone who isn't wearing a hat 24/7. Dude has a hat fetish. He's like the Mad Hatter of Lucasfilms.

There's a difference between having one stylish hat and then having like fifty of them.

 

Wasn't Filoni wearing a beenie instead of the hat in one of those recent behind the scenes videos? I am pretty sure he did, because I distinctly remember thinking "He looks like a hobo in that outfit."

 

He always looks like a hobo. And he sounds drunk in like half of the behind the scenes commentary videos.

 

I'm guessing the hat's supposed to be an extended Indiana Jones reference? Can't think of any other reason one would choose to wear it

 

Because we've just confirmed he's a drunk hobo that sleeps at Lucasfilms. He steals clothes from others. All he has left in this world is his extensive collection of hats and Plo Koon memorabilia.

 

He's just continuing the fine tradition of many a Star Wars character, several he's created himself. Ki-Adi-Mundi, K'Kruhk, Cad, Hondo, Embo...

 

Filoni is really a K'Kruhk fanboy. He just hasn't managed to find a hat that sweet.
