I just found this, and I thought it'd be appropriate here, even though at this point it's a bit out of context.

 

I wonder about the effects of having a giant such as Jupiter that close in your sky. Life forms, civilization develops, and there in your sky is perhaps a giant face of some sort due to swirling storms. the effect on a religion, if other worlds create such a thing, would be quite profound/interesting.

 

I think it's natural for a primitive culture to invent gods/religions in the fact that it is the nature of a sentient mind to seek answers. Y'know, where they came from, why they're there, etc. Doesn't religion predate science?

When the bioluminescent jellyfish-like creatures thriving in Europa's vast mantle of ocean break their crusty icy surface and see their massive neighbor for the first time, they're probably going to go right down that road.

Because a couple of weeks ago, I heard something similar about a church in South America, where the priest told the congregation that his penis the living vessel of Christ on Earth, and that they had to swallow his semen to attain salvation.


Pretty bad....at least until it was revealed that the entire story was fake.

We furthered the war on terrorism by getting Al Qaeda bogged down in Iraq in a debilitating and unwinnable war of attrition against U.S. forces outside and away from our own borders. We let the world know that we will not be bound by the constraints of international law when it comes to protecting our national security. We put the world on notice that by "War On Terror" we mean anything we want it to mean at any time. We have scared the world into submission by becoming the new face of secret police state torture chambers and we have introduced the world to our unmanned drones and extrajudicial assassinations. What's not to like?
