Well, never considered it to be honest. I do raise my kids with good values, like trust, and morals, and honesty. I also feel that Volunteer work is important, helping those less fortunate and standing up for what you believe in. I've taught my kids to 'Be who you are", "Life is about Choices, the choices you make define the person you are" (there is always a choice) "If you don't want it done to yourself, don't do it to others." My mother taught me them, not in those words, so I phrased them. They are the basics in this house and I suspect even a Padawan has to live by rules and they aren't that bad to start with. ;)

I don't know that it's such a good idea. Yes, parents teach kids wonderful values but calling your Mom Master? I don't know. I could see it being a problem if the two went on a dangerous mission. Suppose 'the enemy' learned of the connection? Could leave a gaping hole in their resolve if said villain started in on threatening someone's kid.

Probably why Luke and Mara had others train Ben. Though choosing Jacen was a Bad Idea (tm) :p

And when Luke did take on Ben he just knighted him. Pretty much a day later. Parents often see their own children differently than they see others. It's natural instinct to overlook their flaws because we love them unconditionally. Not a bad thing, but not a good thing either.

Good point, Runner. I feel it would be more difficult to properly train your own blood. The parent would be interested in maintaining a strong relationship with his or her son/daughter. This could compromise some of the training exercises. Also, it seems to me that parents oftentimes become more like friends once the child reaches adulthood. It could strain the parent/child relationship if the child sees the parent only as an authority figure in his or her later life.

I feel the parent should allow someone else otherwise it could put a strain on their relationship. Basic initial training is one thing, flying, manners that sort of thing even basic uses of the Force. But the more extensive training should be left up to someone else in the order when they're ready to be apprenticed.

I agree with Falcon. I think it would be okay for a parent to lay the foundation for the training, but anything besides that could damage the relationship between parent and child.

Kinda like we do in RL. I taught my kids the alphabet and numbers before they started school, and to write their names and read. But the school taught them to do Maths and write stories etc....so I gave them the basics.
