Which is right, unless said generation are mostly injured and experienced 30-somethings are a safer option. But at this curent time Rio is a better choice in that regard since he has been playing better than Terry.

None of which matters now since neither are going to feature, I'd prefer Hodgson take a risk with less experience younger players and if he fails so be it. They will learn from it and be better.

Wow. Israel so close to a win over Portugal in qualifying, but an equalizer at the death. Wow.

Didn't see the match but it's clear that England will win the World Cup in 2014.

Just imagine how many they would've scored if Rio Ferdinand had played.

I was watching the updates whilst conducting The Sound of Music. Shame on Defoe for scoring twice. Hodgson out!

    Yes.

I didn't watch the game, but have just noticed that Leon Osman played most of the second half. This is cause for celebration.

San Marino last scored in a competitive international in October 2008 and have conceded 116 goals since that glorious day when they hit the back of Slovakia's net. They have lost 58 qualifying games in a row.

    lol

That's horrific. But funniest thing I've read since Australia beat American Samoa 31-0.

Germany had them in qualifying several years ago, but 11 or so past them. You almost have to try to not score.

    Indeed.

It's best not to get over-excited when England beat arguably the worst team in the world quite easily, that should even be expected of teams with a far lower ranking.

Why doesn't UEFA do a preliminary round for qualifying to avoid horrible games with large margins and more games scheduled? Why not, at the very least, get it to a point where all groups have the same amount of countries?

Neville Neville has been arrested. With a name like that it was only a matter of time.

Well, England certainly lost momentum in the second half. But credit to Montenegro because they did play much better, though England should have killed the game before the equaliser and Hodgson made substitutions a bit late I thought.

If they do qualify, they'll get dumped out by the U.S. 1-0. You heard it here first.

Interesting article on Rodgers at Liverpool so far. I agree with it overall, he has improved the team as an attacking threat certainly, but they have been inconsistent and that needs to be fixed. In the summer the defense needs to be strengthened.
He apparently gave John W Henry a 180 page manifesto outlining his vision, he should be given a chance to realise that vision regardless of results in the first season.
