JCC Social Memo for the Citizens of Earth

"I care" is not really a valid response to the question "Who cares?", because "Who cares?" is not really a question.

It is an affirmation that whatever is being discussed is lame and or stupid, and anyone who does care is dumb.

 

Social memo for the citizens of the JCC: this thread is dumb.

Additionally: When rooting for your favorite sports team, unless you're on the field/court/whatever actually determining the outcome of the game, DO NOT use the term "we". The term you're looking for is "they".

That's not really how sports fandom works.

 

My Dad does that all the time.

 

Yeah, I don't really understand the "we" thing RE: sports. "Your" team is a profit-making entity owned by some multi-millionaire/billionaire whose association with a certain city or region is almost entirely arbitrary (see: whoever is willing to build a stadium, give tax breaks, etc.) and often subject to change.

 

A University is SLIGHTLY different.

 

I guess. They're not for-profit and owned by a filthy rich dude, but many university sports programs aren't exactly the pinnacle of ethics in other ways.

 

My Dad has grown up with the same sports university program.

 

Are you okay with him saying we?

 

Not really, but since I am living at his house, I try to keep it to myself.

 

I ask because I've supported the same football ( soccer) team for thirty years and always say we, when referring to it. It's just...natural...at this point.

 

I don't. but the man who is paying my rent while I go to grad school and has identified with the same school since before I was born...I can deal with it.
