    Link

I thought that we'd have to wait a lot longer, as in A LOT longer, for this moment.

That would, no exaggeration, be the most important invention maybe outside of agriculture.

That guy also has a really cool blog here.

No doubt about it. The Alcuberrie Drive is supposed to be able to take us to Mars in a day.

And to Alpha Centauri. And back. In two weeks.

i though this was one of those AAAHHH threads where he uses a bunch of nonsense words that are like two letters off from the words he's actually referring to and somehow this is supposed to be funny

Stop stealing VLM's shtick of implausible "science" stories.

Is that 500 kg for the whole trip or per second or minute or hour or what? And last I read this item it was a top speed of 10X lightspeed which gives a 5 month journey to the nearest star.

So who's going to sign up to be Captain of the first USS Enterprise?

    Fixed. :p

EDIT: Archer was a pansy, but when we build the first interstellar starship 30 years from now, it must be named Enterprise.

Do I need to go over yet again why this is currently not plausible?

    Will it look like this:

(It's kinda sorta Star Trek canon; It was an Enterprise starship that predated the NX-01, it was even shown in Star Trek: TMP and on Enterprise.)

Yeah. Nuclear reactor technology went from barely being able to power a single light bulb to being able to power a small town in five years.

    Nuclear power didn't rely on:
    1) nonphysical situations
    2) exotic matter

I thought "Warp Power" was a band and "Chicago Pile" was referencing a famous album.

My second idea for a post: "To boldly go to some lifeless rocks somewhere; maybe we'll find microbes if we're lucky. Why the hell didn't we send a robot? That would've been easier."

The first self-sustaining nuclear reactor. Which is why this thread title is stupid as ****, considering we're no where close to designing, much less building, a warp drive.

You are missing my point. NASA obviously isn't about to pull a starship out of its ass tomorrow, but we're talking about the first bench top tests for a technology that we all thought was at least a hundred years away. Obviously there are many challenges to overcome, but could we see an unmanned spacecraft power an experimental Alcubberie drive, in orbit 20 years from now? Maybe. I wouldn't rule it out.
