I tried grits once - it was like eating what I would imagine what eating wallpaper paste would be like...

 

I'm from NY and love grits. A place by my job sells homemade grits at breakfast. I don't mind instant grits too.

 

That's why you add butter to it.

 

I tried that - got buttery wallpaper paste. Also dabbed a bit of gravy, tried a lttlle honey, a little jam... yeah, still think I'd decorate with it rather than try to eat it again.

 

Try it with bacon and shrimp.

 

You guys are crazy.

 

I'm in the northwestern Piedmont, not far from the home of Lexington barbecue.
On the subject of grits, I like them with cheese. Lots and lots of cheese, and not much else

Grits just need to be made right. And cheese grits are the best.

 

Almost anything is helped by the addition of cheese.

 

Cereal with cheese? Cheese flavored sodas? Cheese gum.

Grits? Did somebody say grits??

I love them and you just can't find good grits in New England.
I like them many ways but my favorite is the time my now roommate made cheesey shrimp and grits (he ordered the grits online). Man they were awesome! Now I want some and we don't have any except for the instant kind which just isn't the same.

 

Is this "grits" america's addiction food like poutine is to canadians?

 

Only in the South. Personally I think grits are gross.

Then again, poutine looks pretty nasty, too...
