Or he could turn into David Duval. Hope not, for his sake.

Duval's pretty much disappeared now, yes... but he was far from a guy who had one bad finish to a major. Keep in mind that Duval was ranked #1 in the world for a few months and he is a major championship winner.

A far better comparison would be Jean Van de Velde, the guy who had a meltdown in the 1999 British Open, including a triple bogey to cost him the championship... and was essentially never heard from again. That said, I don't think McIlroy will follow in his footsteps, and I certainly hope not.

Yeah, pretty sweet for one school to have both sides of a playoff like that, especially at a tournament not all that far from said school.

McIlroy absolutely destroyed the course today.

-11 with the next player 8 shots off that pace.

-16 at a US Open is insane, there have been years when the winner was around even par. As if McIlroy played a different course.

I thought I heard them say something about the weather leading up to the tournament caused the grass not to grow as much as they would have liked. Still, impressive win. Nice for him after the collapse at the Masters.

So the big news in Golf this week is Tiger parting ways with his caddie. Not necessarily a big deal, except that the caddie (Steve Williams) has really lashed out, saying he regrets staying loyal to Tiger for so long. The long descent of Tiger's image stakes another step into the pit.

In a way, Williams is right. He did sort of waste the last two years of his life working with Tiger. From what I understand, he's a very good caddie, but the question is how important are caddies.

I thought it was a pretty big d**k move letting him go now. It would have been one thing if it was two years ago when all the stuff went down in Tigers life but now just doesn't make sense.

Caddies are very important. A great caddy will talk a golfer out of attempting a bad shot, encourage a golfer to make the smart shot, calm a golfer down after a bad hole, be wealth of info for the golfer on whatever course they're playing, etc...

This isn't the first time, is it? He's done this before.

Tiger unraveled today at the first day of the PGA, and shot the same score as John Daly. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Without question my favorite golfer of all time, I never thought I'd see him win another tournament after how poorly he played late last year with everything going on. So happy he proved me wrong, what an amazing final round surge.

Wow. Kaymer just won his match, and Europe has clinched the Ryder Cup. Spectacular choke job by the US. Just an awful last day.

I was shocked to see the score when I got back from work today. Not a good showing today by the US at all.

*somehow the 'Tiger's Back - Maybe not' thread got lost in the either somewhere*

So Tiger won his 8th Arnold Palmer Invitational and in the process regained his #1 ranking.

    So is he back?

I think that thread was from the temp boards.

Let's see how he does at a major first.
