Why do I get Maul truly is going to be like the Kenny McCormick of SW?

True. And I'm hoping that there won't be a Sith.

I posted a fanon Episode VII plot in the Ep. 7 forums a while back. Since then I found out that the idea I posted (coincidentally) has very strong resemblances in some ways to the Yuuzhan Vong plot. I would like a non-Sith antagonist, and should there be a lightsaber wielding bad guy, and I am betting that there will be, they should just be a fallen student, they don't need to be a Sith and tout the Rule of Two or ramble about the Sith ruling the galaxy again.

I was unaware that Sith defined Star Wars. I got through all of the OT just fine from 1992-1999 without even knowing what a Sith was (the word was never mentioned on screen until The Phantom Menace). You can have a bad guy with a lightsaber without having to call him a Sith, and his motives can be different than avenging some ancient Order of Dark Siders and the extinction of all Jedi.

nahhh you need a Sith for Star Wars as much as you need a Jedi for Star Wars. Without both of those, it's just something else entirely of much lesser quality

That story has been told many, many times both in the films and in the EU.

Naga Sadow leads Sith Empire against Republic.
Exar Kun leads Sith Empire against Republic.
Revan leads Sith Empire against Republic.
Nihlus and Sion lead Sith forces against Republic
Lord Vitiate leads Sith Empire against Republic
Darth Ruin leads Sith Empire against Republic
Kaan leads Sith Brotherhood against Republic
Palpatine overthrows Republic from within and establishes a Sith Empire
Clone Palpatine blah blah blah Sith Empire
Darth Caedus, yadda yadda Sith Empire.
Darth Krayt, etc. etc. Sith Empire

I would argue that doing this AGAIN is of lesser quality. At that point there's almost no reason to explore new time periods if its just the same crap different galactic date.

Well in my opinion, Lucas' opinion, Disney's opinion and most fan's opinions. None of those exist minus the one we saw in the films....

Lucas' opinion is that it HAS happened before, multiple times, even if not shown.

"Long have Sith Empires (plural) been built upon the backs of slaves" - Sidious, TCW

And in the films themselves the story would go:

Sith want vengeance for being defeated by the Jedi 1,000 years ago (TPM, AOTC) ----> Sith have vengeance and take control of the galaxy again (ROTS-ESB) ---> Rebel Alliance defeat Empire (ROTJ) ---> Sith come back AGAIN (in the ST)?

"Once more the Sith will RULE THE GALAXY FOR A THIRD TIME!!!!"

    You've polled "most fans"?

What program did you use? I understand Survey Monkey is pretty easy to set up.

Can you link us to the results?

I once posited that the story of Star Wars (as a whole) is essentially the same as nuGalactica: "All this has happened before, and will happen again."

Most casual fans i've encountered know little to nothing about the EU, nor do they care about it.

That is how the EU feels, but I don't think the movies should follow that.

Stop misquoting Lucas. EU is canon unless contradicted by higher canon.

Movies only and Movies + EU are equally canon.

OK. That's certainly an accurate poll of casual fans that you've encountered. But...not "most fans." I don't think any of us can speak for "most fans."

No you did not get it right. Lucas/Sansweet/et al made it clear that EU is canon unless higher canon contradicts it. Lucas has even reached into EU for concepts that resonate (like Courescant as the name of the Capital world).

If they're going to bring the Sith back, they should bring Palpatine back imo.

If they bring back Sidious at all, I would only like to see it as a Sith spirit. Though if he does return as a spirit, I don't think it should be a very casual appearance (like Obi-Wan on Dagobah). IMO if a Sith spirit shows up in the films, Palpatine should not be able to just stroll around and chat with the characters as though he were still alive, but rather should pretty much be a broken minded, tortured existence.

No Sidious return please. I'm sure that in a galaxy as big as the GFFA, the writers can find new Sith, Dark Jedi or even just regular compelling villains without changing the definition of the word "dead" or rendering Anakin's deed at the end of ROTJ nearly worthless.
