It saddens me that the function of an adjective is apparently lost on you.

If an analogy can be apt, can it be slick? Can it be funny? Can it be tragic? Can it be moving? Of course it can. It can also be described as overblown or ridiculous. You may disagree with my interpretation, but the idea that I'm not allowed to describe my reaction to your analogy is ludicrous.

So fine, whatever, I do not find your analogy to be apt because it was ridiculous and overblown. An analogy functions by drawing a line of comparison or similarity between two things to make a point. You can't mention Hitler and then be like, "Oh, yeah, but I didn't mean for you to be thinking about the HOLOCAUST thing, I mean THAT would be in bad taste!" Well, I mean, you can, but then people will roll their eyes at you. And reasonably assume you were trying to create a subliminal link between Christie Golden and Hitler.

 

Now, if she marries a "Mr. Dawn" and chooses to hyphenate . . .

 

Not to mention comparing people who like Golden to people who like Hitler.

If I had have said "Christie Golden is a bad author like Hitler was a bad person", then you may have a point.
