CT The Stormtroopers are NOT bad shooters...

Rather, the Big Three are good at dodging blasts! (imo). Does anyone agree or disagree?

 

They are good shots when the plot says so.

 

Sometimes those Big Three didn't have to dodge at all...and neither did the stormtroopers. When Luke and Leia were on the platform, they barely moved when stormtroopers opened fire. Blame it on their helmets, or maybe an Oscar Schindler type was manufacturing the weapons that would be assigned to those particular troops.

 

The Stormtroopers are very very nervous causing their hands to shake.

 

They're good in practice but not prime time players

 

Only when taking out Jawa's sandcrawlers are they accurate.

 

There's a theory that when Leia says "They let us go" in ANH- she isn't just referring to there being only a few TIE fighters- she's referring to everything from the breakout on.

So, by that theory, Vader sent an order across the trooper comm net, to "shoot to miss" and they did.

Ever since playing the Jedi Knight games, I blame their guns. You can hold a stormtrooper rifle dead on the target and it will fire anywhere else.

I got it.

The accelerated aging due to their clone births. All the stormtroopers are like 80 years old. They must need glasses!

 

This is my new canon.

That or the helmets are obstructing their vision ("I can't see a thing in this helmet!")

 

Given the way they hold their weapons (typically at the hip) it's not the helmets, as they're clearly either aiming instinctually or aren't aiming via conventional means. There are optics on their blasters, but it's rare to see a stormie actually take the time to line up his sights.

 

They only missed their shots cause they didn't want to hurt anyone

 

They didn't miss the rebels on the Tantive IV...

I just think they were given a "No Kill" Order...

 

Maybe it's the helmets. They could see through the visor when they were Republic soldiers but the eyes of the skull-helmets are too dark to see through.

I just spoke to Lucas and he said that was it, and that he intended that to be the reason all along.

 

The stormtroopers are actually rebels!

 

Despite getting their butts kicked by Ewoks, they still managed to score a downright incredible shot on Leia. Look at it: in the middle of a chaotic firefight where the squads are completely out of position, one stormtrooper takes a snapshot one handed and manages to strike Leia in the shoulder.

When not facing heroes, or comical teddy bears, these dudes are damned lethal. It's the same misconception that all Tie Fighters are useless compared to X-Wings. Last I checked, one squadron of Tie Fighters nearly wiped out a Rebel force twice their size in the Death Star battle. Thirty rebel ships, and only two X-Wings and a Y-Wing escaped. Return of the Jedi has them racking up even more kills.

 

It is accelerated growth, not aging. The Stormtrooper clones just grow up into adulthood faster, but would age normally as adults.

 

Well, on a scientific level, growth is defined as cells dividing, either to expand upon already existing tissue or to replace defective cells. Or maybe I'm just pulling this out of my Midi-Chlorian.
