Amph Doctor Who Discussion (Russell T. Davies returns)

The parade of Eleven's companions past and present on the Nerdist TV show continues:

 

Beautiful. She was pitch perfect in TPOT. Pitch perfect.

 

Also, after two episodes that have (by varying degrees) divided opinion... and after a few more viewings of the trailers for it... I have a feeling that Cold War is going to be the episode that brings us all together. It's going to be awesome.

 

Vintage monsters tend to do that

I think the Cybermen will too, and Zygons.

 

It's not just the monster (but that is really exciting!). It's also the tight claustrophobic setting (meaning the episode probably won't rely on SFX for thrills), the very promising supporting cast and the thought that - three episodes in - we're past Clara and The Doctor's 'introductions' and can begin to explore the meat of their relationship. Particularly if Clara's mystery has to be resolved in only eight episodes. And to be honest, any episode that looks like it opens with The Doctor wearing those awful yellow glasses simply cannot go wrong.

 

Depends on how the Cybermen are portrayed (they've always been hit or miss in New!Who), though that's Gaiman's episode so, hopefully they'll be portrayed good.

Edit: Everton, you've described why I regard Midnight so highly as an episode, re: The claustrophobic feeling.

 

I think we have to have faith in Gaiman.

 

It's going to be difficult not to compare Cold War to the Angel season 5 episode set aboard a sub filled with Vampires.

 

Not difficult for me since that's one of the few Angel episodes that I never got around to watching.

Did anyone listen to the BBC radio adaptation of Neverwhere that was on recently? It was so much better than the original TV version, and the cast... James McAvoy, Natalie Dormer, David Harewood, Sophie Okonedo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Head, Bernard Cribbins, Christopher Lee... Now that's a good bunch of actors.

 

I remember geeking out about it when it was announced, but then I completely forgot about it until Everton reminded me yesterday. So naturally I got it as fast as I could. I've been listening to the first episode and it's really good! Weird to hear James McAvoy's native Scottish accent, though, since he usually acts in English accent...

 

I just have to get around to listening to it is the problem.

With regards to anniversary casting, can we please remember to put stuff under spoiler tags? I know that there was absolutely no way Tennant and Piper were going to be kept a secret from anyone, not even me (besides which, I'd explicitly stated I definitely wanted to know if he was officially going to be in it anyway ). But I really, really don't want to know about every character or actor who's going to appear. I know mostly people have kept things under tags but please do try to remember to. I also am going to try my hardest not to see photos or know what Tennant's involvement will... involve

Of course, I might wind up getting spoiled like crazy about guest stars at the 50th Anniversary panel they are (supposedly) having at Comic-Con, but that's an event worth getting spoiled for. This thread isn't quite on the same level, no offense
