Why do these people constantly hate non - human creatures just because they are different? The point of this user about jar Jar is clear, but why Chewie?

For some reason I HIGHLY doubt the reason people hate Jar Jar (rightfully so) or Chewie (un-rightfully so) is because they are non-human.

This is a OT v PT argument. It has nothing to do with being non-human.

I don't hate either Jar-Jar or Chewie. I find the hatred toward Jar-Jar somewhat rabid and emotionally disturbing. And I'm a little surprised by any hatred toward Chewie.

To get back to thinkin' about Jar Jar--the "I give up" moment in TPM gets me every time. In addition to the simple hilarity of the exchange, I just love that even in the bounds of a cartoonish adventure sequence Jar Jar is allowed to be a character who wants little if nothing to do with the whole idea of heroic achievement through violence. Refreshing little aside, if you ask me

I wish he had a deeper voice. I feel the same way about the battle droids.

I've never really had a problem with Jar Jar. To be honest though the only SW character I can't stand is Colonel Gascon.

I have no bubble, and no delusions! I just tell how I feel and do what I want. I' m not curling up! If I ever let myself curl up, I don' t think I would' ve been typing this by now! If I had this bubble, I' d say our politicians are unsuccessfully trying to do something for our country, but I admit that really they are just stealing from from people! If I had delusions I would' ve said everything is going well in our planet, but it isn' t! The Earth has lots of problems in both material and spiritual sense, and mostly because of people themselves! If I had delusions, I' d say the world is progressing, but i know that progress is just an illusion, and really the world is in degradation! So before saying you should know me better!

I find it interesting that in the movie, most of the characters we meet look down upon Jar Jar and immediately dismiss him as a fool. But it is Qui-Gon who sees potential in him and gives him a chance. While Jar Jar can't change who he is, he is given the opportunity to meet his full potential at the end of the movie, finally gaining acceptance.

Despite his goofy exterior, the scenes where Jar Jar is actually heroic really speak the most. Though I've always had a problem with his immediate surrender in the movie.

Though I think Jar Jar was a little annoying at times, he was key to the success of the battle against the droids in some aspects. Without his connection to the Gungans, there would have been no army to fend off the droid army from the Naboo palace. He was, in some way, a bridge that united the Naboo and the Gungans in the end. Without his mutual friendship, peace may not have been possible.

That is true. The character did serve a function to the story, they just botched him pretty bad.

I think a more toned down approach would have worked nicely.

I do agree with the botching. He should have no role or part or second of screen time in AOTC or ROTS. I can't stand his horrific grammar they gave him.

I've enjoyed your posts in this thread, Master Elaine. You should definitely stick to your guns and go on seeing through the madness. "Illusion". Good word. In fact, I could make another thread about this, but TPM is actually like George Lucas' take on "The Tempest", with an enchanted island and the sense of everything being not as it is, the past as prologue, a Prospero (good/evil) artisan figure, a pestering native guide, and so on. Even the speaking members of the queen's counsel -- notably, Hugh Quarshie, Oliver Ford Davies, and Ian McDiarmid -- bring a theatrical, RSC vibe to the proceedings. There is a lot to drink up in Episode I and the Star Wars saga generally. Don't ever be ashamed to love what you will!
