Me. It symbolized a different time period. In the OT the Jedi recognized the need to throw this rule out the window - I think it shows part of the evolution of the Order.

Agreed. Their beliefs and policies were all wrong, and with Qui-Gon's inspiration, Obi-Wan and Yoda acknowledged that in the end.

I'm guessing that the Jedi Code of their time was probably changed a thousand years ago to what it was like in the Prequels so there wouldn't be any chance of another Sith order rising up to threaten the galaxy again. But it was flawed, and it made the Jedi Order into a callous institution that eventually became ineffective as the guardians of peace and justice.

I like that there is a concrete reason behind why some people have the ability to utilize the force while others don't. Rather than "He is special" we have facts.

Didn't Qui Gon try both approaches? [face_mischief]

Anakin is special is supported by the fact of his high midiclorian count. Before, we just had to assume Luke and Ben were just randomly picked by fate or something. There were only about 5 force wielders in the galaxy so far as we knew in the OT.

The rule of being an unlikeable emotionless jerk (Mace Windu and the other stiffnecks of the council)
Qui-Gon was ahead of his time :p

I believe he was talking about midi-chlorians. But I don't recall any rule related to them. They just exist.

Also I think the Jedi, just like the Republic became complacent after such a long lasting time of peace. Complacency is the first step to downfall.

Also, I do like the Midi Chlorians, never saw what the big fuss was.

    Lucas let me help you:

"Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together."

It was the other way around - he sensed Anakin's strength in the Force, and only used the midichlorian test to confirm what he already knew (ie to make sure he wasn't 'seeing things').

Yes I love the concept of midi-chlorians and I was pleased that the PT introduced something new to the story that helped to expand our knowledge of the Force. I hope the ST does something similar. I'm all for creative new ideas being introduced.

The Midis talk to the force and determines one's force sensitivity. The force still is energy and not just "germs in your blood" strawman argument.

I'm the one who likes the concept of midi-chlorians. It's a great way to explain how can someone feel the Force, and someone cannot.
I heard some thoughts like the Force can be trained to use and how midi-chlorians ruined that theory. Also, based on Luke's statement that the Force is strong in his family, I heard that this energy field created by all living things suddenly favorized the Skywalkers which is, for me, nonsense.
Midi-chlorians are not the Force, they're just the middle things throuhgh we can feel energy field created by all living things. And I say energy field to show that the Force is not something mystique because we know what it is and what creates it.

If you still hate the midichlorians concept read the Darth Plagueis book, it will instantly change your opinion. Before I read it was like "Oh whatever," to midichlorians - no big deal, it made sense. But after reading that book, so many things about the Force become clearer - I am glad Lucas introduced that concept in TPM.

I'm indifferent. I think it's a silly concept, but I won't lose sleep over it.

I loved that book, but because of Plagueis the Greedy Corporatist and Palpatine the Slimy Politician. I could have lived without Plagueis the Mad Scientist altogether.
