^Easily done - it's an obscure little movie, practically no-one remembers it or that scene.

    :p

How is that out of every where like Beam spam mcgee? you can clearly see every paser strip. But not all of them all at the same time spamming them like its Kira Yamamoto.

Substance over style as opposed to Abrams style over substance

That's a bit over the top. Though I get that you make it in jest. There is a very generic action-y rip off Nolan's Dark Kight feel in a lot of holly wood,

All of scifi especially franchised scifi is suffering.

I know its all to appeal to the lowest common denominator, I blame "the people" ore than I blame Abrams.

Oddly enough, when I think about TWOK, I don't think of the initial ship battle much.

There's definitely an over-reliance on torpedoes in 1-6 though.

I found a few of the terms in the comic Star Trek Countdown to Darkness.

It's I have the Conn not I have the helm, unless you are planning to "Take the wheel" of the ship itself.

Its cultural/technological development, not evolution. Admittedly Small irritants, but I thought it was good, Challenging the prime directive with morality. The twist of the "Crazy captain" from the old TOS series, they even had Mudd...well his daughter.

But I felt Star Trek countdown was better than the movie of it's explained.

Agreed Likewater. I just recently read it myself, and I did enjoy it, and it might explain why Kirk is so willing to break the PD in the beginning of STiD. Other than that I can't really see it providing much insight into the new movie, definitely not as much as the first prequel comic.

Is that the fault of the comic though, or the creators -- is it easier to explain "Hey, what is a character we are familiar with doing in a place we are utterly unfamiliar with and do we need to bridge and/or explain it?" rather than "Do we need to explain original fan fic?"

Most likely the latter. Nothing was stopping them from having Harrison in the comic aside from the last page.

    New clip

See Han Solo maneuver the Falcon through the ravaged Coruscant skyline. No, really. Well, almost.

Trek now has the burden of serving as a demo reel for the new Star Wars. Abrams couldn't do it openly, lest he anger Paramount. But he can still do it.

The stupidification of sci-fi is now complete. Meh. I'll still see it.

I assume photon torpedo launchers. Vengeance is supposed to be Dreadnaught-class.

I wonder where the old-school Trekkies are, to say that this:

is the proper Dreadnaught-class Federation Starship?

(Funny story: Gene Roddenberry created his "starships have two pairs of nacelles" rule for TNG as an "up yours" to the guy who designed these and many other Star Trek blueprints in the 1970s. They were even featured as starship schematics in TMP, WOTK, and Search for Spock. That was probably why he created it in the first place. Well, he's dead now, and we now got ships like the Kelvin.)

Basically JJ Abrams slapped together the asteroid chase with the Endor Death Star attack.

They came out of that chasm, I expected to hear Billy Dee Williams screaming "yeeeehaaaaa!"

"The Enterprise crew look trivial against him, their uniforms retro and goofy against his men's magazine sleekness."

lulz, it's almost as if the source material were retro!

Few reviews are out and about. Mostly from what I've read, we are in for a great ride. Just not a ride that will be the greatest of all time. IT's a success in that in has now created a legitimate franchise.

That's because the spoiler-free reviews make it sound good. The issue with the movie is that the spoilerly events kind of ruin the whole thing. So going into it knowing nothing and reading non-spoiler reviews, you'll think you'll like it. But then the meaty stuff the non-spoiler reviews won't mention happens and you want to burn down the theater.
