Do those organizations have entire temples (yes plural) that they consider "sacred", though?[/quote]
Again, we're facing the difficulty of defining "religion." The word itself come from the latin verb religare, which means "to tie, to bound together." The most non-specific definition of what "religion" is should include:
    - a distinction between sacre and profane things
    - belief in one or several supernatural entities (not necessarily faith or worship, just belief)
    - a moral code that is belevied to have a supernatural basis
    - ritual acts
    - a global view of the world and how individuals fit into it and relate to each others
    - certain forms of communication with the supernatural
    - a social group bound together by all of the above.

The Jedi certainly fit that picture. Ergo, "Jediism" is a religion.

I thought I came across it somewhere in the HST. Some kind of conversation he had with Bria made me think that he hadn't heard of Vader. I could be wrong. I'll have to go back and check. Dismissing the jedi as old foagies I get that. But I just tend to think that a guy as "worldly", or in this case as "galaxy-y" as Han would have known a little more than he let on about such things. Again, I could be, and most probably am wrong, but....

I agree that non-Force users probably created more wars than Force-users, but I think wars such as the Great Sith War and the Clone Wars which were caused by Force-users (sometimes through manipulation) were more devastating.

The Chancellor and teh autorities should have created some sort of department of officers who work with the Jedi, but also to make sure they do not use their powers in bad ways. The names of people who have Force abilities should also be written down in some sort of register.

I do not think they should purge the Galaxy of Force-users, they should make sure Force-users are injected by a Force-neutralizer when they are born.
A bit like why children are injected to prevent the from having certain diseases.
Although, I have to agree that I would already be happy if they just controled Force-users more.

I was wondering how Republic should have done that ,not the Empire. Also the Empire could only keep the Jedi in "check" not any of the other force groups and they had to use Force-users to do that

What's so disturbing about the General's plan for purging the galaxy of Force-users.... he has actually expressed sympathetic views for real life National Socialism on these boards. Yowza!

I was actually just wondering how he was envisioning how to neutralizer force users on a Galactic scale, since all the force dampers/removers I know of come from using the force in one way or another

Keep in mind that it's just the Dark Side that causes all these wars, never the light side. So the key is to prevent Jedi from becoming Sith.

Not that Han hadn't heard of Vader, but that he thought Vader was just a rumor, not a real person.

He was not thinking straight after he had to check the quality of some deathsticks before bringing them on board.

The Essential Guide to Warfare suggests otherwise, with there being wars that predate the takeover of the Sith Empire by the Exiles (such as the conquests of Xim the Despot, and the Pius Dea Crusades) and wars after the apparent disappearance of the Sith in the Ruusan Reformation period (such as the defeat of the Mandalorians and the rise of New Mandalorian pacifism in its wake).

Perhaps Khan's magic blood can act as vaccine to prevent the Force! It's able to bring people back from death.

I have heard this before and I think if we were talking about generations passing after the purge then I would agree, but even if the Emperor purged every mention of the Jedi from every database in the galaxy he can't erase people's memories. From the Purge to ANH we are talking less than twenty years have passed. Any planet that had regular contact with Jedi should have millions of people who remember. I am sure there had to be parents telling their children about the Jedi. I would think if Luke asked somebody older than him...like Mon Mothma or any of the Generals they could tell him about the Jedi and perhaps his father. The Rebels are running around saying, "May the Force be with you." Why would they do that if they don't know about the Force and Jedi?

I still don't know how Han could call the Jedi a hokey religion and not know about the Jedi when his best friend Chewbacca was the one who helped Yoda escape Kashyyyk.

Maybe Palpatine gave the galaxy amnesia in some way? ;)

Ah, but very, very few people in the galaxy had personal memories of the Jedi. Ten thousand knight and masters, plus a few thousand padawans and a slightly larger Service Corps presence is, on a galaxy-wide scale, tiny. To put that in perspective the Imperial Navy probably had more Admirals than the Jedi Order had knights, at the end.

So with careful editing Palpatine was able to remove the Jedi from the media, which represented more or less the only way anyone in the public was actually aware of them. Cuople that with monitoring and punishments for talking about the Jedi, and those people who did have memories largely kept things to themselves.

It also doesn't help that the Jedi Order was extremely secretive about its ways and methods. Perhaps Luke did ask Mon Mothma, but aside from generic boilerplate, what could she have really told him?

I am telling you all the Jedi needed was a good PR firm and a well made reality show to be popular.
