Is there any way 6th place might be enough for a Europa League place?

    PFA Team of the Year:

    David de Gea
    Leighton Baines
    Jan Vertonghen
    Rio Ferdinand
    Pablo Zabaleta
    Michael Carrick
    Juan Mata
    Gareth Bale
    Luis Suarez
    Eden Hazard
    Robin van Persie

That's a fine team... except for anyone who isn't Leighton Baines.

    Talk about shinning it*!

*I suppose Bale's touch was more calf.

I think that's an excellent squad. Maybe would have rather seen Gerrard over Carrick, since he's had such an excellent comeback- but that's small potatoes.

    Great job, Mata and Eden.

Joe Hart made a string of uncharacteristic mistakes to let de Gea into the team.

I'm surprised to see de Gea in there, especially since he only has another year before SAF buys his replacement.

De Gea has improved immensely, and can only get better.
Hart has been uncharacteristically off-form this season, I guess that is reflected in City losing the league by so much.

Good PFA team, same as I would have picked overall except maybe someone else in Carrick's position (Dembele maybe).

Nice to see old Bobby Tambling turn up, he was very emotional. Pretty decent record he's got too, 202 goals in 370 games which is a better average than Lampard even though he is likely to beat the record.

Bale has been excellent this year, fully deserving of the PFA Award.

Carrick has been by far and away the best central midfielder in the league this year. I'm more puzzled by the inclusion of Hazard who, though being brilliant in patches, has been frustratingly inconsistent.

There is an argument in favour of Carzola over Hazard, but both have shown their class this season and I think Hazard has more assists and goals.

I hope Kagawa can be considered alongside them next season if he finds a role in the United team that brigs the best out of him.

Carrick can be excellent, but I find him too inconsistent and found wanting in matches against opponents with tough or slick-passing midfielders since he simply can't push guys around enough. His passing range has been very good this season though, far better than it normally is.

Just a thought- if you could have one of any of those players (restricted to that chosen team) not currently on your squad, who would you take?

I would probably go for Bale to the Bridge.

I'd take Michu over Hazard in team of the year straight away. Benteke for Young Player as well.

As for Carrick, his role in the United side isn't to "push guys around". He's not a defensive midfielder. He's there to spray the ball around and start attacks. He's been United'd best player this season IMO. Sorely underrated.

Michu is definitely Bargain of the Year, but he's been used mainly as a striker for a while now and not a midfielder.

The PFA team of the year has one central midfielder in it, I think they're doing a Garth Crooks.

I bet Everton says Baines anyways.

    And yeah, Bale.

Bale. followed by one of Mata or Hazard.

Carrick has indeed carried United's midfield this season and fully deserves his selection. further proof of the England squad's ridiculousness that Carrick is barely a guarenteed starter. Rio's rightful inclusion in the PFA team makes Hodgson look even stupider. "footballing reasons", lol.

as for De Gea, i wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in world football. i would also note that Macheda, criminally, never made the PFA team of the year.

    LOL @ Blinkerman :p

I agree with the majority of the PFA Team. I'd still put Cech above De Gea though. Cech has had by far his best season since his injury and has shown that his confidence is back. His save against Man U in the FA Cup is probably the save of the season. De Gea is still weak. He is good, don't get me wrong, and shows signs of becoming outstanding. But he's not there yet.

In other news LOL @ Sunderland. That#s what happens when you sell your best player to Fulham

They never should have got rid of Asamoah Gyan, although he did leave just for the money.

Plus he wore an unacceptable shirt number for a forward player.

So does Wigan's Kone, but I'm sure the fans don't mind if he scores a lot.

Of course, but it still irks me. I was more relieved than I let anyone believe when Gareth Bale finally dropped the number three shirt in favour of eleven. :p

No circumstance should warrant that. Unless there are 98 other players in the squad.

Maybe the manager is a rebel, breaking with tradition and all that.

I await the day someone who isn't a goalkeeper wears 1
