I hope so, but there are so many factors on both sides (I live in Pat Robertson country, so I know that all too well), that at this point, unless Cuccinelli really really does say something that's so far over the line, it's pretty much a crapshoot how things are going to turn out come November.

I would like to take this opportunity to correct the first sentence of the linked article.

"Fox News is heavily invested in turning Benghazi into the scandal that takes down Barack Obama."

    should read:

"Fox News is heavily invested in turning Benghazi into the scandal that takes down Hillary Clinton."

The Conservative quest to eliminate facts

"Rep. Jeff Duncan, a South Carolina Republican, has introduced a bill that would prevent the federal government from collecting data about the economy.
That’s right. The bill would require that the Census Bureau stop collecting the information that economists use to calculate (among other things) the unemployment rate, the labor force participation rate, housing construction rates, trade deficits, and much more."

So that's the Republican plan to eliminate unemployment!

(at least they finally have a plan)

SC's most high-profile local politics site (there aren't many), Fits News, has aggregated multiple polls (including PPP (Dem) and a local GOP-leaning institution), and it looks like Sanford has caught Colbert-Busch at 46-46. Dead heat- bad news for ECB if it comes down to turnout, as she will need Romney voters to turn out for her- she's carrying 93% of the Obama vote in those polls, but there aren't enough registered Dems to match the 75% or so Romney voters who will go for Sanford.

I still think she'll win, but it could go to recount.

Yeah, but isn't the prevailing spin for this one that it's because people have stopped looking?

What is amazing is seeing the facts and figures that show things are not only improving but it is actually a good economy. The only thing that sucks is the middle class squeeze. Yet The Right media claims the economy is the worst among the worst and everything is about to fall apart.

GOP Congressman wants political approval of scientific papers

"The bill says that any research done using federal funds (which is the majority of research done in the United States) must have its results and finding approved by the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives. If the findings are not agreed to, the research is taken from the researchers and disposed of by Congress as it sees fit."

This is the same party which cries about too much government in our lives.

Well that will pretty much insure that most researchers will, indeed, leave for other countries that won't have as strict of a stranglehold on science.

Good job being job killers, GOP/Tea Party nutcases.

it's not exactly wonderful news - we're still mostly flat in terms of growth. and the stock market is being juiced by the fed. it's like the balloon boobs of a pornstar - they're nice and big, but they're just not real.

I knew someone would say that, that's why I preemptively pointed out: "Labor force size increases"

Which means MORE people are actually looking for work this month than last month, the exact opposite of what you suggested, (and the unemployment rate still dropped).

Which makes this excellent news! :D

Of course it could be a lot better... but this is still the best we've had in a while, it's improvement! :D

Apparently the "insiders" are revealed and will appear this weak to...uh who I'm not sure but whichever government board oversees this sort of thing. So this will all be public and we'll see what they have to say and to whom about what.

The only missing piece of this reporting bombshell for Fox News is having Nancy Grace around to report it.

Send Shepard Smith to HLN/CNN and Nancy to FOX and I'd consider that more than a fair trade of talent (and with Shep off FOX I'd never have reason to watch that channel ever again).

Sanford's now got the lead in the polls, per The State (Columbia) newspaper and everywhere I've read. The largest Charleston newspaper endorsed Colbert-Busch over the weekend, but turnout is still expected to be low.

I'm not very confident in my pick that Colbert-Busch wins this anymore, Gov. Sanford's made up a 9 point deficit and now has gone out front- unbelievably, he's captured the big mo. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say its reactionary towards ECB going extremely negative (uncomfortably so, sign of a young and inexperienced campaign) and releasing ads specifically attacking him on the mistress (soon to be wife), the buffoonish Chair of the SC DNC, Dick Harpootlian (who has a history of racial missteps), getting bad national press by screaming during his speech at the Biden dinner from Saturday that "Nikki Haley should go back to whatever hell she came from!" and just the fact that Republicans outnumber Democrats in my areas about 3:1.

Election Day in (a very small piece of) Carolina tomorrow.

Edit- Oh, and a mugshot of Colbert-Busch was released, from a 1988 contempt of court charge related to her divorce. May not be trespassing or blowing state monies on a trip to Argentina, but it's usable in this wild campaign.
