Silent Voices by Ann Cleeves

 

I remember Wedge's Gamble being my favorite X-Wing novel because there weren't many dogfights. I could watch a space battle for hours on screen, but I fall asleep reading descriptions of them. It's been years, though - I should go back.

And daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn is Darth Plagueis good! enjoy!

 

Well it took me a while to get used to them in Rogue Squadron but when I did I liked them.

Got a big May the fourth deal today by getting Dark Empire 1 on kindle for half price. I've never read any of the Dark Empire series before but from what I've read so far its awesome.

 

Currently reading Ken Follett's Winter of the world.

 

Just finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and will be starting Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

 

Just finished Timothy Zahn's STAR WARS: Scoundrels, and I'm nearly done with Space Cat Visits Venus, a kids' book I read decades ago that I just thought I'd read again. I'm also once again going through Dangerously Funny (a book about "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and the controversies thereof) by David Bianculli. And, during a couple of periods of waiting at doctors' offices, I dug out my copy of In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.

I'm not sure what I'll move on to next. I recently finished going through all the Nero Wolfe stories; I think I might try Harry Kemelman's Rabbi Small books, as I haven't read them in a while.

 

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

 

I broke down and finally started reading The First Man in Rome, even though I planned to wait until I had finished Malazan.

 

I remember the Space Cat books - read them when I was a kid. We had a bookmobile (mobile library) that visited our neighborhood once a week and that's where I discovered them. They had to be one of my earliest SF series.

 

Since my last post I've read Allegiance, Choices of One, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and Tatooine Ghost. Up next is The Dark Nest Trilogy.

Amazing.

SWpants666 I didn't like the movie, but I quite enjoyed the book and have read it multiple times. Didn't know there's a sequel; I've put it on hold!

NYCitygurl , historical fiction actually. Set on the real events that kicked off the 100 years war. It has been good so far, it is no Song of Ice and Fire and doesn't compare well to fantasy novels like that, but it is good none the less.

Has anyone in here read Rose of the Prophet series by Weis & Hickman? That was a really good series, but I am partial to anything by Weis and Hickman.

 

Just finished Book 2 in the Mistborn trilogy and moving on to Book 3: The Hero of Ages.

Very addictive read! Kelsier FTW.

 

Sweet I love that period in history. (And I'm not a GRRM fan, so no SOIAF comparison is good by me )

I haven't read that one. Is it related to the Dragonlance series?

It isn't, it is a separate world and I don't recall a single dragon in it. It was very good though.

 

I'll have to check it out!

 

I read it every 4-5 years or so, with all the attention that they got from Dragonlance that series went under the radar.

Taking a break from Infinite Jest to read Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore.

 

Winter of the world is indeed the sequel. It's highly entertaining and very much like Follett's other historical novels.

 

I love anything by Christopher Moore. Lamb especially.
