Like Lando, I'm okay with the fact I was circumcised when I was born (my parents did it for hygiene reasons). It's no big deal. So I'm missing some extra skin off my peen. Am I supposed to be angry, when there's more important things to worry about?

EDIT: Since when did this thread go from talking about home schooled kids to circumcision? OZK started it, didn't he?

why you would want a 9 inch penis... I sure as hell wouldn't want that... look at porn for instance, most of those guys are rather large and even the women in the movies whos main job is to take the biggest of the big cant take that stuff...

And not for nothing dude if you have a 9 incher and your girl takes it, well shes been around the block...

Also if women were meant to take 9 inch penises all the time the average penis size would be closer to 9 inches and most womens vaginas would be built to take that. But theyre not and the overwhelming majority of men are not close to that.

Georges Lemaitre would like to talk to you. Ask Vivec, he can tell you who he was.

Everyone always loves to namedrop the same 3 famous religious scientists, but statistics show that religiousity among scientists is is less than religuousity among the general public.

In addition, I can bring in anecdotal evidence directly from the field and say quite a lot of us physicists are atheists.

    Your move, Saintheart

I wonder if OZK were to homeschool his kids, if they'd be assigned essays on why circumcision is bad?

On the whole, it's a very relevant criticism of hypocrisy of many people in this thread. Why is it such a big deal that someone educate their children at home? There's no evidence that it leads to personal dysfunction. Furthermore, why shouldn't I have the right to raise my children believing things most other people think are insane? I don't believe God created the world 6,000 years ago, but I don't think it's abusive for a parent to pull their child out of school to teach them that instead of the science that most children in primary school learn.

Maybe so, but your beginning part about cutting off ***** had no relevance to the discussion at hand.

Why should something so invasive and permanent be considered an okay parental choice, but choosing not to send your children to schools, artificial man-made institutions, when they can learn the same things at home, should be viewed as abusive and therefore illegal?

So you think that homeschooling should, effectively, maybe barring some special circumstances, be banned, and children should be forced to attend educational organizations sanctioned by the state?

My point is only that people ranting how Teh Catholic Church Hates Science Lol have rather a problem with the fact that people like Lemaitre (who was a Catholic theologian as well as a scientist, not just a "religious scientist" as you put it) have somehow managed to avoid being tortured by the Inquisition in the modern era for daring to suggest science impacts on our current ideas about God. Lemaitre was even principled enough on his biography to remonstrate with the Pope for pointing at the Big Bang and saying that proved God; Lemaitre said theology and physics were entirely separate disciplines.

Your assertion that scientists are less religious than the general public amounts to intellectually dishonest debating tactics -- appeal to popularity, and changing the subject, specifically. It's not my move, because you and I are not playing the same game.

This brings up a good point. Is everyone clear that I believe that the diversity of species on earth is due to random mutations which are preserved by natural selection, and that all living organisms on earth likely share a common ancestor?

I also believe that the universe is 13.8 billion years old, that the earth is 4.6 billion years, old, and that modern human beings appeared around 200,000 years ago, having evolved from earlier hominids.

Hardly anyone said homeschooling should be completely banned. Just that perhaps it should be regulated, because education is NOT about indoctrinating your kids -- it's to make sure the future generation isn't a bunch of dumbasses.

And I think I speak for everyone here when I say we're tired of hearing about your schlong.

I'm being dishonest? Why don't we look at some official polling.

    http://www.people-press.org/2009/07/09/section-4-scientists-politics-and-religion/

83% of the American public believe in god while 33% of scientists. Conversely 4% of the general public don't believe in god or a higher power while 41% of scientists do not.

    Scientists. Are. Less. Religious.

    Deal with it.

I don't think anyone denies that. The point was that there IS a considerable number of religious scientists, and there's really no need why faith and science should clash. Like Saintheart said, theology and physics are entirely separate disciplines, so when someone says "lol u can't be a scientist if you're religious", they're being rather short-sighted.
