PT (Poll) Favorite lightsaber duel in the PT?

I thought it was more that they, as brothers, are anticipating each other's actions before it happens, hence the moves ending before the sabers make contact.

 

Oh I think it's a great movie, just that scene is a little silly.

 

How Palpatine takes out the 3 Jedis at the beginning really ruins the Mace/Palpatine duel for me. Also both of them seem sort of awkward at times, especially Palpatine, even though later he later seems very precise vs Yoda. Maybe the Ian McDiarmid close shots when they couldn't use a double is what does it. He doesn't even seem to hold the saber correctly. Sometimes his hands seem strangely far apart.

 

I couldn't choose between the 2 Phantom Menace fights and Anakin vs Obi Wan ROTS fight!

 

I still remember watching the Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon/Maul fight (can't technically be a "duel" with 3 people) for the first time in theaters. My hands were gripping the arm-rests and afterward my face hurt from grinning so much.

 

Duel of the Fates, while it does have flashy moves, it isn't near as overdone as the Mustafar duel/

 

For me, Duel of the Fates has all of the makings of a classic lightsaber fight. For one, incredible music. I think the song Duel of the Fates is my favorite of any Star Wars piece. The flashiness was bearable for me, and even cool at parts. What I really love about it is when Qui-Gon is killed, and Obiwan has to just sit there for awhile, emotionally pained by the loss of his master. It's the perfect slow down, and built a lot of tension for me. Maul's death was, upon second viewing, not that bad for me. Perhaps his inexperience led him to put down his guard while Kenobi summoned the strength to jump back up.

 

That, or Maul was extremely arrogant and that was why he underestimated Obi-Wan. I heard somewhere that Sidious himself told Maul he had an ego problem.

 

Anakin vs. Obi-Wan, definitely.

That battle was something. Even though the mood was sad and depressing, it was definitely the best lightsaber duel in the prequel (in my opinion). My favorite part was when they were swinging their lightsabers in the air with no sign of stopping. Simply epic.

 

My favorite duel is the first one between Qui-Gon and Maul.

Why?

It had a sense of urgency.. Qui-Gon had to be quick against this killing machine, because 1) Maul was after the Queen, 2) the ship was about to take off. Also, I like the way it progressed. It started as an OT-style duel, then Maul went really fast and then we could only see swirls, sand and chaos.

The Duel of Fates duel is a close second tough!

 

I completely agree with you. It had so much meaning behind it other than two people who wanted to kill each other.

 

I love Darth Maul, but my favorite battle is Obi Wan vs. Anakin from RotS.

 

That one probably wins overall.

 

Either Mace vs Sidious or Yoda vs Sidious. My two favorites of the entire saga, and it's not even close

 

I have to go with the last one. It's the culmination of all of the fights that Star Wars has done, and puts the energy and intensity of the scene up to a figurative 11.

 

Obi-Wan vs Anakin (Darth Vader at that point in the movie.) It was awesome!
